Diablo II: The Lord of Destruction review
Better than original
Introduction: This game is a whole lot better than the original Diablo 2. It adds a whole new light to a game that had a shadow casted upon it. Without the expansion pack, the game would be worse than it is now, and I cannot play this game without the expansion pack.
Gameplay: 9 out of 10
This is one of its greatest features. The expansion set adds a whole new act in which you are to defeat Baal, the Lord of Destruction. Although you can't do much outside of the quests there still feels like there is a sense of freedom in playing, with the huge maps. The selection of seven characters seems so much more than five, and the millions of ways to complete the game are what make this game great. There are side places throughout the game that gives you much needed experience and some good items. The incredible number of monsters make it so you are always guessing about who is going to attack you. The main difference to me from Diablo and Diablo 2 and its expansion was the saving system. In Diablo, you could save your exact spot, but in Diablo 2, you can't save your spot, and you can only save and quit, and when you go back in, it will put you in town.
Story: 9 out of 10
A well thought out story and good relevance from the original Diablo and Diablo 2. It has an intricate plot, although there a couple holes in the story which seem like they take place without you doing them. Otherwise the story is very interesting and complicated to make the game even more exciting. The story that you must kill all three Prime Evils or Hell will erupt on the mortal world is very exciting.
Audio/Video: 8 out of 10
Pretty good songs at first, until you beat the game and try it on a harder difficulty, the music gets kind of annoying and repetitive. The graphics are very nice with a 3D accelerator, but they can sometimes cause problems. Good solid graphics even without the graphics card. There are many different songs for each different ''setting.'' For example, outside has a song, in the caves have a song, in the jungle has a song, and so on and so forth.
Replayability: 10 out of 10
This is where the game is the best. With all the characters and all of the different combinations of skills you can choose from, you can try so many different ways with each character do see what works. This game can be replayed forever.
Buy or Rent?: Buy. Definitely buy if you have the original Diablo 2 because it doesn't work otherwise. Don't rent it, you will just get hooked and want to buy it afterward. If you don't have any Diablo games, I would recommend buying the battle chest, probably over 100 dollar value for 50 dollars.
