A high school for the extreme elites, only the best and brightest attend such a place. Naturally, everyone who graduates from the school goes on to rank high in their field of study, however making it to graduation day will be impossible, unless of course you kill one of your friends.
Dangan-ronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Kouko tells the story of fifteen lucky (or unlucky, depending on your definition of "lucky") students who have been selected to attend the elitist school. The main character, Makoto Naegi, an average student, is one such individual who was selected to attend this year's courses. Upon arriving at the school, Makoto passes out, only when he wakes up the school looks less like a school and more like a prison. Things only go from bad to worse when the alleged principal, a shady teddy bear character who goes by the name of Mono-Bear, tells the students that the only way to escape from the hellish campus is to betray their friends. When somebody drops dead, it becomes Makoto's job to figure out who the perpetrator is, if he wants to make it out alive.
