Civilization: Call to Power User Reviews

9.6

Civilization: Call to Power

The good:

Concept of Armies is good. Much better graphics. Menus allow easier managament of cities.

The bad:

What is up with the game crashing when loading a saved game? What happened to the city view?

Summary:

If you can handle turn based, this is the game for you. CTP 2 has some nice upgrades to enhance the original. Watch out for those stealth units, they can ruin your whole century.

8.4

Heroes of Might and Magic III

The good:

Graphics are great. Install is painless. It does not require 3D accelleration for a good game.

The bad:

The game mysteriously pauses during combat turns when there are a large number of monsters on the screen.

Summary:

Test Bed:
AMD K6-2 400mhz
256 MB RAM
ATI Rage Fury 32MB
Creative Labs SB Live!Value
Linux-Mandrake 7.2 ('DrakeFreq 3/16)
Kernel 2.4.2/XFree86 4.0.3

Overall the game was pretty good. I have so far only played a couple rounds in the campaign, but am suitably impressed. I never heard much about the Win32 version so I did start off "virgin" so to speak. I also have not tested multi-player but expect it to be pretty good.

The only bad thing was that when there were a large number of armies in a battle, there was sometimes a bit of pause before I could move my own army during my turn.
