Child of Light is a 2D platform video game developed and published by Ubisoft; it mixes platformers and RPG elements to create a unique blend while still being inspired by classic fairytail stories.
Child of Light has a detailed plot; it follows the young Princess Aurora who is spirited away to the fantasy world of Lemuria. After becoming friends with a firefly named Igniculus, she must find a way to return home and back to her sick father before it is too late. To get back home Aurora must traverse the world, defeat monsters, solve puzzles and defeat the evil that is holding the world captive. There are 3 main chapters to playthough
Child of Light is a side-scrolling platformer and the player must reach the end of each level to progress through the game. There are some RPG elements as well which allows the player to level up and increase their stats over time; there are 216 skills to unlock. There are 600 crafting combinations which require materials and Oculi. Oculi are gemstone like objects in Lemuria which can be equipped to boost stats and abilities; they can also be combined to create new types of upgrade an existing Oculi.
The combat system uses a system similar to the Active Time Battle System seen in the Final Fantasy series; the system allows the player to control up to two characters during a single battle however the other characters not used in the fight will level up the same way regardless. Up to three enemies will appear during a battle, including in boss battles. Initiating a battle requires the player to use a Surprise Strike on the enemy while enemies initiating the fight will Ambush the player. Igniculus cannot be killed in battle, he plays a more supporting role in battles by having abilities such as being able to blind enemies which can prevent their attacks.
