Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter game from Infinity Ward. This is the fourth main installment in the Call of Duty series and was published by Activision in 2007 for a variety of platforms.
The game is set in 2011 during a time of chaos where a Middle Eastern country is under threat from a terrorist group, and a new Civil War has begun in Russia; the player takes control of a U.S. Marine and a British SAS Commando as they are sent around the world to deal with the events.
The campaign allows the player to take on various character roles; every mission is played from a different character's perspective with a total of six different playable characters in the entire game. There are only two main playable characters, and the other four are much more limited.
The weapons in the game are more modern than in previous games and offer assault rifles, .50 caliber sniper rifles, C4 and attack helicopters; there are also new gadgets available that use thermal imaging. There are three stances available to the player which can be utilized in both single and multiplayer; standing, crouching and prone which all impact accuracy, stealth, and movement speed.
Taking cover is crucial in both the single player and the multiplayer, there are no health or armor pickups around the map and health is regenerated when the character stays out of the line of fire; when damage is taken the edges of the screen glow. Live grenades will have a marker over it which allows the player to avoid damage if they leave the area or find and throw the grenade away.
The online multiplayer is the main mode in the game and features 11 different online modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Free-for-all; the gamemodes are focused on team-based objectives or deathmatch modes. Each game ends when one team has reached a certain number of points, if the points are even when the timer ends then the game will enter Sudden Death where the last one standing wins for their team.
Earning a kill streak can allow the player to call in attack helicopters, air strikes or area scans which reveal the location of enemy players; a specific number of kills will allow the player to use a different support ability to help their team.
Players can earn experience points be playing matches and completing objectives; experience points allow the player to level up, and the console version allows the player to reset their points. Experience points can be used to unlock new perks, weapons, and challenges which can reward the player with more points and weapon attachments when they're completed.
Classes in the multiplayer can have their weapon selection customized, and weapons can also be modified to suit a particular playstyle; up to 3 perks can be assigned to each class which further customize each class.
 What's New
The biggest change is the movement of the setting; for the first time in the series that game is now set in Modern Times and features more conventional weapons not seen in the older games. The campaign is spread across a wider range of countries and features more playable characters.
