A Good Deal

Summary:

The Gamecube isn't exactly overflowing with RPGs, so it's nice to see Namco supporting our little box with some wonderful gems. Baten Kaitos is one of those efforts that uses an unconventional combat system with more recognisable genre staples. The result is a great game that feels somewhat restricted by its own chosen mechanics.

The story itself goes along a fair few RPG conventions in the creation of its tale. The key facts to remember is that there's an evil empire and a dark god waiting to be revived. Thankfully we are given some extra plot details to keep us interested, especially when ...

Summary:

Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings And The Lost Ocean is probably one of the best RPGs in the market available for Nintendo Game Cube. Namco made an awesome job on this one, and if you are a RPG lover, you won't be dissapointed. Sure, it is hard to get used to the battle system, but once you get it, you won't be able to leave this game alone in a long time.

The Good;

I Don't remember the last time I saw such awesome graphics on a videogame with a 3D environment. Every character (important or not) is very detailed. The clothes, the items... Everything is very colorful and well detailed.

Baten Cardos: Awsome Possum

The good:

Graphics, story, battles

The bad:

Card game, the voice acting, the uberfeminen lead.

Summary:

Oh Namco, what does your name mean? You've given us top notch RPGs like the "Tales" series, and, ummÂ… that other series! You've given us the Soul Caliber series, and more. But why oh why did you make an unknown named 'Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean"? I'll tell you why, BECAUSE IT'S AWSOME! Who knew that a card game other than Blackjack could be fun? Ok, so it's an RPG to the extent of its name, ridiculous story, feminine main character with questionable voice. Oh, yes, you know it's from overseas as well. Because no one from America and Canada have wings, we just have tanks....

One of the greatest RPGs to grace the GameCube

Summary:

Baten Kaitos, in no way, was a long awaited game. Nobody knew what it was, but they sure do now. Apart from being one of the great RPGs of it's time, it joins the fame with highly acclaimed titles like Final Fantasy X or Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time.

In this game, you use 'magnus' cards to attack, defend, heal and even solve puzzles or quests. In a battle, you can use a variety of magnus to fight or defend against your opponent.

Graphics - 9/10

Lush, hand-drawn backgrounds emulate a real atmosphere for any town or dungeon in the game. The full-motion video is almost real and game graphic...

About time, Nintendo.

The good:

Hours and hours of gameplay, wonderful graphics, beautiful music, edictive battle system.

The bad:

Horrible voice acting, dialogue is badly translated, crappy cut-scenes that drag on and on...

Summary:

Finally, an acceptable RPG for gamecube that doesn't have an action-based battle system. Not that action based is bad...it's just technically not an RPG unless it's turn-based, in my book. Although the concept of using cards for battle seemed kinda...stupid, it's actually pretty fun, and takes a lot of practice to get the hang of. There's different attack cards for every character, so that's a lot of cards to memorize. However, if you're the type who could get confused by that, you shouldn't be playing this game. Seriously. The beautiful graphics make up for the irritating voice acting, and...
