[edit] Background

Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II is a Formula 1 racing game offering three modes of play: Senna GP, World Championship, and Free Practice. Senna GP has you first choosing between three tracks and then deciding on your transmission (automatic, four-speed manual, or seven-speed manual). The action begins with a Preliminary Race, which is one lap around the course in order to determine your starting position. After the qualifying run is over, players are ready to challenge fifteen computer-controlled drivers for three laps.

The World Championship is a season comprised of 16 races on one of two difficulty levels: Beginner and Master. The Master level offers challenges from rival drivers, invitations to join racing teams based on performance, and requires you to drive more laps than the Beginner mode. Those who wish to participate can enter their names and nationalities and choose to warm up their cars with a few laps around the track.

As in the original, the view is from the driver's seat while a rearview mirror appears along the top of the screen. A course layout map, lap indicator, tachometer, and speedometer are also positioned on either side of the display. Drivers who finish within the top six in each race will earn points, with the winner receiving ten points and the sixth racer receiving one point. Unlike the original Super Monaco GP, players don't have to write down passwords in order to continue their progress: battery backup allows for six saved games. Look for Ayrton Senna's advice in between races!
