[edit] Background

These days MOBAs are all the rage, which is awesome. Know what's awesomer? When MOBAs go side-scrolling -- that's Awesomenauts. Awesomenauts is a 2D side-scrolling MOBA which pits two teams against each other as they battle to destroy each other's towers and ultimately their base. Of course, in order to get there they'll need to kill their opponents as well as level up, acquire new skills and purchase upgrades too.

Bringing it all together, Awesomenauts features a great cartoonish style filled with unique, clever and wonderfully animated characters. Paint it all with a great sense of humor and Awesomenauts becomes a great, casual, arcade-y experience that helps change the rules on what defines a MOBA.

[edit] Game Play

Pick one of Awesomenauts' outstanding characters -- they're all great, though each features a different play-style that will change when and where a player fights, defends or runs away. Players will then take their character into the arena, where they'll fight against opponents with similarly iconic characters. Depending on who they picked, players will shoot, explode, stab, punch or otherwise dismember their enemies. All of this is to in effort to push the opposing team back into their own base.

There's also an amount of customization involved in the process. MOBAs are all about progression over the course of the game. The player earns "Solar" from killing neutral monsters and enemies, which they can spend upon returning to base. This includes their own skills, upgrades to those skills, as well as 3 of 6 improvements. Through this strength creep, players will become more and more powerful, customized the fit the playstyle necessary to hopefully win the game.

[edit] Features

In 2013 Ronimo ran a successful Kickstarter to expand Awesomenauts. They raised almost $350,000 despite an original goal of only $125,000. Awesomenauts: Starstorm added a new map, five characters, spectator mode and more. Ronimo worked with crowd funding after their publisher went bankrupt after the initial launch of Awesomenauts.

[edit] Hardware Info

Awesomenauts is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
