Assassin's Creed: Revelations is the direct sequel to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and is the final game in the Ezio Auditore story arc; it is the fourth game in the Assassin's Creed series and continues the story of Desmond Miles.
Due to the events in the last game, Desmond has entered a coma and the only way for him to awaken is to find the last significant memories of Ezio Auditore. The game features two protagonists from the series, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Ezio Auditore as the story follows Ezio on his journey to unlock the secret of Altaïr's vault.
The game was developed and published by Ubisoft in 2011 for various platforms.
The game features similar gameplay to the previous games in the series with various notable improvements.
Parkour is an important feature in the game series and the free-running aspect has been improved with the addition of the Hookblade which allows Ezio to scale objects at a much faster rate. Players can also find ziplines on the rooftops of buildings which allows Ezio to travel across the city easily. The Hookblade can also be used in combat as a method of escape or manipulating the environment to damage the enemy.
Stealth is still a major feature in the game and the player is still able to use the environment to hide themselves and avoid detection. The Eagle Vision ability seen in the previous games has been improved and the player is now able to track enemies, pick up their individual trails and locate disguised enemies which would otherwise surprise Ezio.
Several bombs have been added to the game which can be used in combat; the smoke bomb has been improved and Ezio has a range of bombs at his disposal which can be used as traps, for distraction and some are lethal. These bombs can be crafted by the player at various stations across the city.
There is mini-game similar to a tower defense game which the player may need to play whenever Ezio's notoriety becomes too high. The player must defend the Assassin's Den from the Templars who want to take control of the Den; the player directs different Assassin units to defeat the incoming Templars. Several abilities are available for this section of the game such as cannons and barricades which can be placed in the path of oncoming Templars. The recruitment system allows Ezio to recruit apprentices to the Assassin's Brotherhood and he can station them at different Dens across the city which can remove the chance of a Templar attack.
Random events can be found taking place throughout the city such as civilians needing help; completing these events will reward the player with money which can be spent upgrading weapons, buying new gear and in various other ways. Templar Stalkers will also stalk and attack Ezio at random as he travels across the city; the modified Eagles Vision allows the player to counter these attacks.
Outside of the Animus, Desmond is able to explore the environment and his own memories can be relived through the Animus Island. Desmond's memories are different to the ones experienced in the Animus, these are first person and puzzle based.
The multiplayer mode has been expanded to provide the player with more weapons and customization options. The gamemodes are focused around hunting another player while also evading potential pursuers at the same time. It features more maps, abilities and characters which the player is able to customize.
