[edit] Background

Assassins Creed: Brotherhood is the direct sequel to Assassins Creed II; it follows Ezio Auditore as he rebuilds the Assassin Brotherhood in Rome by taking down the Borgia Templar family and bringing wealth to the city.

The story follows the 21st century protagonist, Desmond Miles who uses the Animus to relive the memories of his ancestors in hopes of finding a way to avert the 2012 apocalypse. Desmond uses the Animus to take on the role of Ezio Auditore once again during 16th century Italy. The main game takes place in the Animus however, Desmond can leave it at any time to explore the present-day area and there are also some parts of the game which take place in the present-day.

Assassins Creed: Brotherhood was developed and published by Ubisoft; it was originally released in 2010 and was later released in 2011 for more platforms.

[edit] Gameplay

The gameplay follows the standard of the previous games and is focused around stealth; the player must work through the story and complete goals such as killing a specific target. Completing the goals and the missions requires stealth and includes stealth kills. During each mission, there are several targets that the player can aim to reach, meeting these targets will grant the player with bonus money once the mission is complete. The player is able to use Eagle Vision to lock onto enemies, follow their movements through walls and to also locate their target.

The player is able to blend in with the crowd to hide from enemies; this includes hiding in large groups of NPCs and also smaller groups. It is also possible to hide in specific objects such as piles of hay however, enemies that are searching for the player will check potential hiding areas and may also see them hiding in a crowd of NPCs. Parkour is a main feature of the game and the player is able to scale walls and objects for faster travel or to better position themselves so that they may assassinate their target from above.

Combat in this game was improved and now allows the player to dual-wield a main weapon, such as a sword, with throwing knives or the Hidden Gun. Ezio is also able to continuously move between enemies which allows him to perform kill-streaks and executions using the melee weapons in the game; additionally, he can also perform dual executions using the dual-wield feature. Ezio can use a variety of weapons including heavy weapons, crossbows and poison darts which can all be assigned to quick access buttons. New weapons can be purchased in the game and it is possible to upgrade skills, abilities and weapons.

The player is able to summon a horse to ride at almost any time in the game, it can be ridden in the city districts and through the countryside while free-roaming and during some missions. Combat can also be engaged on horseback and it is possible to steal an enemies horse.

In the previous game, the player was able to renovate a specific area in Rome to improve the city; in this game it is possible to renovate the entire city. The various areas of Rome are under Borgia rule and each zone must first be freed from their grip before the player can begin to renovate areas.

Ezio is able to command several apprentices which are gained through the game; these apprentices can be used to kill enemies and allow Ezio to summon an arrow storm. They can be sent out of the country to take on contracts which grants them more experience and also provides Ezio with money and trade objects. They can also take part in main missions by assassinating important targets and acting as Ezio's backup when the mission does not go as planned.

There are various side-quests and activities around the city such as locating collectibles, completing missions for the Thieves and the Coutesans, past memories to relive and also extra assassination contracts.

Outside of the Animus there is some limited activities where Desmond is able to interact with the team. He is also able to travel to Rome for short periods of time in order to locate five artefacts that belonged to Ezio.
