This film was designed to be something of a follow-up/definitive conclusion to the Gundam Wing anime series, and it does appear to be. Where this title excels is not only in where it ends, but where it goes back to-it makes good use of "flashback" sequences to highlight the past lives of the Gundam pilots that weren't touched on originally in the anime. Additionally, they don't reveal a few key plot twists right away in order to keep the suspense at a high level, and the Gundams also receive more feminine-looking makeovers, including one Gundam getting a pair of "metallic wings".
The animation is still very high-quality and the characters are well-detailed. Another thing that is notable about the DVD release is that it includes both the original theatrical version, and the 3-episode OVA that Bandai originally released on VHS.
Even if you didn't see the original Wing series, this is still worth seeing as a standalone title. It's an exciting finale that will keep you guessing until the ...
