Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack review
A thrilling end to a classic rivalry

The final chapter in the classic "Mobile Suit Gundam" storyline, Char's Counterattack is the climax of the rivalry between pilots Amuro Ray & Char Aznable, while the ongoing Federation vs. Zeon war rages on around them.
The animation, by 1980s anime standards, is very good-the producers did a good job of changing the main characters' looks to reflect age progression since the original Gundam series. The mecha designs have been nicely updated as well, and there's plenty of action; Yoshiyuki Tomino titles are known for their violent battles and "kill-em-all" finishes, and this one's no exception. The ending is just slightly disappointing, however, in that there's not much revealed about what will happen afterwards.
This film is a fitting end to the primary Universal Century storyline, and should help hold Gundam fans over until Zeta Gundam is released stateside.
