10 Rillington Place is the true story of British mass murderer John Reginald Christie, played with chilling "normality" by Richard Attenborough. Throughout the late 1940s, Christie lures middle-aged women to his London flat promising to cure their ailments with nitrous oxide, then kills and buries them. One of his victims is Beryl Evans (Judy Geeson), who misguidedly came to Christie seeking an abortion. Beryl's ex-beau Timothy John Evans (John Hurt) is accused of the crime. The accumulation of circumstantial evidence, coupled with Christie's perjured testimony, culminates in Evans' execution. Several years later, the truth comes out, and Christie is also hanged. The grievous error made by putting Timothy John Evans to death lead to the complete abolition of the death penalty in Great Britain.
