ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150 Motherboard Review reported at 01:10 PM
category: Socket 1150 Motherboards     website: HardOCP
Article Quote:
While ASUS is usually known for motherboards like the Maximus and Rampage Extreme series’ or even feature rich solutions like the Z97-Deluxe it is motherboards like the Z97-A that are ASUS’ bread and butter. Shopping for an inexpensive motherboard doesn’t have to mean accepting poor quality feature stripped solutions.

Asus Xonar Essence STX II 7.1 Review reported at 12:18 PM
category: Sound Cards     website: techPowerUp!
Article Quote:
"ASUS has another solid product for their Xonar line-up in the STX II. The addition of 7.1 connectivity is a bonus to some, but I doubt it will be a decider for the majority of gamers and music afficionados out there. What will appeal to everyone is the addition of several op-amps in the bundle, which allows you to tweak the sound to your liking without having to pay absurd retail prices through aftermarket vendors. The Muses op-amps have a somewhat different tonality compared to the TI-manufactured LME49720s, one of the most widely recognized high quality op-amps for audio products out there. The Muses bring a bit of warmth to the sound, which many people prefer. Overall, the quality of on-board components has gone up from the STX. The caps are mostly from WIMA and the DAC and op-amps are some of the best chips around. A bit annoying is that ASUS has not engineered a way around the high output impedance of 10 Ohm, so TPA 6120A2-based cards are less than ideal for in-ears and super-sensitive headphones.Since the card is available both with and without the 7.1 add-on card, it is easy to get the card that fits your needs. The STX II continues where the STX left off and is noticeably better across the board."

PNY GeForce GTX 760 XLR8 OC Review reported at 12:13 PM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: HardOCP
Article Quote:
"We feel like the Radeon R9 280 may be the better deal, because a reference R9 280 can perform well against the overclocked PNY GTX 760 XLR8. If you can grab an R9 280 with a nice overclock, or manually overclock one yourself you should expect to see a performance edge compared to a GTX 760."

HIS R9 290 iPower IceQ X2 OC 4GB GDDR5 Video Card Review reported at 11:31 AM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: MadShrimps
Article Quote:
By using a proven high-quality cooling system and also adding a few bonuses like a custom backplate, HIS is releasing a pre-overclocked R9 290 which trades punches with the Nvidia GTX 770. While the factory overclock is quite mild, we will be able to raise the clocks even further in order to enhance the gaming experience even more.

HIS Radeon R9 290 iPower IceQ X2 OC Review reported at 10:27 AM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: MadShrimps
Article Quote:
As the HIS 280 before it, the R9 290 iPower IceQ X2 OC video card features a very solid cooling system with five heatpipes and the two fans blow air onto the large heatsink which exceeds the dimensions of the PCB. HIS has also added multiple shields, not only on the front but now we also have one on the back; these metallic parts help the PCB not to bend under the weight of the heatsink, but also evacuate heat more efficiently. Under operation, the bottom shield gets quite toasty so we would not really recommend touching it while gaming.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost vs. GTX 750 Ti reported at 09:57 AM
category: Game Accelerator Cards     website: ocaholic
Article Quote:
The new GTX 750 Ti is on average about 7 percent quicker than the GTX 650 Ti Boost. If you put the cards up against eachother when it comes to the price, we find the GTX 750 Ti to be 16 percent cheaper. In other words you pay 16 percent less for 7 percent more performance. If you're looking for an entry-level gaming graphics card, the GTX 750 Ti is basically as good as it gets these days. The only advantage the GTX 650 Ti Boost has over the new small Maxwell offer is the SLI connector. If you already own a GTX 650 Ti Boost you could snipe a cheap second card on eBay for roughly 80 Euro or about 90 US-Dollar. This would be boosting gaming performance by quite a margin but at the same time power consumption with massively increase.

Kingston HyperX Fury 240GB SSD Review reported at 09:38 AM
category: SATA Hard Drives     website: HardwareCanucks
Article Quote:
So where does this leave the Fury 240GB? It’s actually a pretty decent entry level SSD which competes extremely well against the Crucial MX100, a drive that boasts a newer architecture but similar performance. OCZ's ARC series on the other hand has thrown a new wrench into the works with better throughput retention and a similar price. It also goes a long way towards vindication for the SSD market as a whole; these quick drives have finally reached a point where you’ll get HDD-destroying loading times and decent capacity without spending over $175. That in itself points towards a product segment that’s finally coming into its own.
