"Years of experience has made Western Digital one of the leading manufacturers in desktop and enterprise storage. Their Red line of drives have also proven that they are willing to give the general consumer a drive with enterprise level features and with a new set of 2.5″ drives to now add to their portfolio, its clear they will cover every angle to cater for the consumers growing needs."
"A definitive conclusion about the Western Digital Red 4TB is difficult to draw, as we don't know the price of the desk yet. If it's going to be priced along the same lines as the 3TB model, we would certainly recommend this disk if you are looking for disks for your NAS device."
"What Western Digital has created here is the epitome of ‘good enough’ network storage. While it may never beat any of the higher end models in their particular areas of expertise, none of them can even come close to offering this level of flexibility or overall value. The new RED 4TB improves upon its predecessor in nearly every way imaginable and that makes it one of the most appealing NAS solutions currently available."
"Perhaps the best surprise about the Red series of HDDs by Western Digital is their price since currently the 3TB model (WD30EFRX) retails for just USD139.72 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and 125Euros inside the EU (Amazon.co.uk). That being said the WD30EFRX does not offer stellar levels of performance and is in fact quite slower than most of the HDD models we've tested over the past years but realistically speaking its read/write levels are actually above what most NAS Servers can handle and at the same time the NASware 2.0 technology package does seem to make a difference. Bottom line if you are looking for the ideal HDD for use with your NAS Server and you are not willing to spend much then the Red line of HDDs by Western Digital should be your first and perhaps only stop which is why the WD30EFRX 3TB SATA III HDD gets our Golden Award."
"Western Digital has seen a future market demand and filled that void brilliantly. The new Red series offers outstanding throughput, dead-silent operation, and even some enterprise features at a cost only slightly above that of the lowest cost consumer drives out there. The ability to continuously and dynamically self balance is a feature unseen in even their own enterprise lines, and is a sure contributor to the 1 Million MTBF rating. I see the Red becoming the defacto standard for all bulk storage array applications. Given the recent push towards the home NAS concept, I think a bunch of folks are going to start seeing Red everywhere (in a good way)."
