"Considering the performance, unique design, ability to be modified to accept an underside mounted fan, and the fact that it actually fit into my HTPC, the Thermaltake BigTyp 14 Pro CPU cooler earns the Bigbruin.com award of "Highly Recommended"."
"The Thermaltake Big Typ 14 Pro gave us a little more overclocking headroom than the Intel Stock Cooler on the Q6600 which granted, is a 65nm part, and isn't real easy to cool. For 45 nm parts it does a good job. It fills the niche it was intended to fill and looks good doing that."
"Well at first glance it seems obvious there are other heatsinks with better thermal performance to pick from, CPU coolers offer significantly lower noise levels too. The crux is that Thermaltake's BigTyp 14Pro heatsink stands only 127mm tall. Assuming a minimum clearance height of 135mm for sufficient airflow, the BigTyp 14Pro is then on par with the Xigmatek HDT-SD964, Zerotherm BTF92 OC Ed. and Xigmatek HDT-S983 heatsinks. In height limited situations where a heatsink no higher than 135mm is required, the available options greatly narrow and Thermaltake's BigTyp 14Pro cooler is among the best - it's just too bad the fan puts out nearly 60 dBA at full tilt."
"It is average priced compared to other high performance coolers, and you will get a performance similar to other good products on the same price range. So, buying this product depends more on your personal taste, how much you liked its looks and if you have a full tower case."
"As with all heatpipe coolers the more heat you have to dissipate the better the cooler will work. For the TT BigTyp 14Pro this efficiency comes in several forms. The first is in the form of 6 (read 12) 6mm copper heatpipes. These heatpipes feed into 2 separate aluminum radiators which are in turn cooled by a huge 140mm LED fan. The additional size also helps to provide additional cooling to the components around the processor area making the BigTyp 14Pro more of a total system cooler than a processor cooler. The 140mm fan does a great job at cooling and is adjustable to fit anyone's hearing versus cooling needs. In our experience keeping the fan just a hair under the top speed made the BigTyp 14Pro an excellent and yet quiet cooler. Full speed will provide you with better results but did make the fan somewhat louder than desired."
