"While the DS213+ NAS from Synology is not from the same league as the last Atom D2700 4-bay NASes that have passed though our labs, the product sports good performances for both read/write transfers and includes a Dual Core processor at 1.067GHz with Floating Point (Freescale QorIQ CPU to be more exact) and also 512MB of DDR3 (not upgradeable). The DS213+ is concentrated on low power consumption and after the OS initialization, with only a single 320GB 2.5’’ Western Digital Scorpio Black installed, we have recorded a value of 17.62W so we won’t have to worry about expensive power bills."
"Granted the DiskStation DS213+ was not designed with people who want an NAS server to double as a media server and so if an HDMI output is a must for you (along with XBMC) then the DS213+ is obviously not suited for your needs. However for people who care not about that HDMI output or a second gigabit LAN then i really doubt there's anything better in the market currently (both in terms of performance and functionality) at around that price point and that's why the DiskStation DS213+ gets our Golden Award."
"To wrap up, I think that the fresh DS213+ fully justifies its price because it packs many features and performs really well. The two disks that this NAS can take will be more than enough for most users. Only in a business environment, where high data redundancy prefers RAID 6, which takes more than two disks, could the lack of more disks be a detrimental factor. But other Synology NAS servers capable of holding many more HHDs can meet the needs of such business-specific scenarios well."
