"In summary, I can recommend the MSI Radeon HD 4850 MS-V803-285 to video game and overclocking enthusiasts because of the performance to value ratio and extremely effective cooling system. The 4850 comes close to the GeForce 9800 GTX in gaming performance, but never completely outperforms it. Taken into consideration, you have to look at price and sub-feature offerings. It's no surprise that CrossFire and CrossFireX are available on just about every single motherboard that fits an Intel or AMD process; the same is hardly true for the SLI. So then it's down to price. Since NVIDIA submitted to ATI's price point, both products are now offered at the same cost. At the end of this point, there's really no decisive victory to be handed out when comparing the two unless you consider price. The MSI Radeon HD 4850 is an outstanding product, and the performance is just as good as the alternative while costing less."
"AMD/ATI have done a great job with their Radeon HD4850s. Our review of the MSI R4850-T2D512 have already proven that their RV770 Pro is a very capable GPU, offering very good performance and value for money. What's even better is the ability to Crossfire these cards ... allowing mainstream gamers to boost their gaming performance easily and affordably. A 2-way Crossfire Radeon HD4850 setup will prove to be a very attractive option for gamers, both mainstream or enthusiast. If you decide to get one of these cards, then you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you can increase your gaming performance dramatically ... just by adding another Radeon HD4850 and Crossfire them together, with no complicated procedures.
During our tests, the 2 Radeon HD4850 in Crossfire mode produced excellent results in all our benchmarks. It easily beats a single Radeon HD4870, and in some cases it outperformed a pair of Radeon HD3870s. So it's a big thumbs up when it comes down to performance. However, there is one downside to all of this. These Radeon HD4850 cards can run extremely HOT, and the excess heat can be a problem ... and I'm not kidding. Extra chassis fans are definitely needed to keep the interior of your PC cool."
"In Crysis, the MSI R4850-T2D512, the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX, and the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT all gave an identical gameplay experience. In Age of Conan, both the 9800 GTX and the R4850-T2D512 delivered the superior gameplay experience. The 8800 GT was slighting worse than the other two videos cards because it was not playable with Bloom Enabled. In CoD 4, all three video cards gave a similar gameplay experience but technically the 8800 GT trailed behind again with 2X lower AA. In our AA scaling tests, we found that there is no such thing as free lunch with the R4850-T2D512, even the meager 2X AA wasnt free.
With the R4850-T2D512, MSI has delivered an inexpensive Radeon HD 4850 at only $160 after mail-in-rebate . It is a video card for those with a budget. It is not builder overclocked, it does not have an extravagant heatsink, or any other bells and whistles. It is just an inexpensive video card, which is rock solid, and performs amazingly well."
"What is so great about the MSI R4850 512M is how much performance you get for your hard-earned dollar. And that performance isn't just about FPS. You also get excellent cooling performance. The standard MSI R4850 with the reference ATI cooler can be purchased online for about $190 at the time of this publication. For only $5 more (or about $195), you can grab an MSI R4850 512M with the custom cooler like we reviewed here. That seems like a no-brainer to us. If you want an MSI Radeon HD 4850, opt for the R4850 512M unless you absolutely can't take up an extra slot in your system.
To be fair to other Radeon HD 4850s out there, we have to mention that the MSI R4850 512M is a bit more expensive than many of the other 4850s that we found online. If you like the R4850 512M and are okay with its price, then we doubt you'll be disappointed if you decide to purchase one (or two). On the other hand, if you just want the cheapest 4850 currently available, then you should shop around a bit before making your decision."
"The HD 4850 supports all of the features of DirectX 10.1 meaning that if a game requires it the card supports it. As the little brother of the HD 4870, the HD 4850 from MSI is a great choice for all but the most hardcore enthusiast who would want the more expensive 4870 or HD 4870 X2 cards in any event. At the end of the day the MSI R4850 512M video card is worth the extra $5 as it runs much cooler than the standard 4850 card and sacrifices nothing for it in terms of performance or features. This is a Hot Product at the moment as it has all the features of any other 4850 card, with the addition of an excellent cooling solution."
