"Ultimately the Glacialtech Alaska tower heatsink offers very good performance with its 120mm 1600RPM fan running at stock speeds. Reducing the fan speed down to a minimum of 700RPM has a greater impact on thermal performance than we initially anticipated - dropping the heatsink into average territories. Thus, with the Glacialtech Alaska heatsink it's best to keep the fan running constantly at, or near full speed for the best thermal results. If Glacialtech could only just devise a slightly easier to use mounting bracket system it would have an all around great heatsink on its hands."
"The Alaska has a very innovative fin design, called "breathing effect" by GlacialTech, based on holes and slopes on the fins. This design probably increases the airflow turbulence, improving heat transfer."
"GlacialTech’s Alaska cooler is a nice performing cooler that is easy on the wallet, but is hard to install and even harder to find."
"The GlacialTech Alaska from the testing looks to be a real player in the big world of air-coolers. The cooler performed well against a bigger and larger competitor. The Alaska weighted 100 grams less than this competitor and went blow to blow with it. So, I guess we can now say that bigger doesn’t always mean better."
"The Alaska proved to be unique with its adoption of a honeycomb hexagonal fin design in combination with cross-drilled vented fins. Glacialtech should be congratulated for thinking outside the box and providing a way to consumers to keep their machines cool while not producing a lot of noise. Added benefits of the Glacialtech Igloo are the included thermal grease IceTherm II, which is well above the standard white silicon grease included by many other manufacturers. Even though the Alaska is big it still allowed for space in case of tight builds where RAM to CPU spacing could be a problem. The scooping design of the fan and honeycomb design of the heatsink did provide “breathing effect” and the air definitely came out of all the sides instead of just the side opposite to the fan. Perhaps, the benefit of this design is reflected in solid low temperature."
