"To summarize my thoughts on the Gigabyte Radeon HD 5870 Super Over Clock graphics card, it would be fair to say that I think it's a tremendously-built video card with plenty of enthusiast perk, but the price point is too high and it lacks any bundled incentives such as full-version DirectX-11 video games. The operating noise is very minimal under load, which is important to me as an alert gamer - but it consumes more power than any other Radeon HD 5870 we've tested and idle power draw is identical to NVIDIA's well-admonished GeForce GTX-480. It's unlikely that I would ever purchase the Gigabyte HD5870 SOC at its current $500 price point, but given a sizable rebate or price reduction, and anything's possible."
"The Gigabyte HD5870 SOC has a great feature set and within the HD5870 family is the top performer we've seen (At factory clocks). At $499 on NewEgg the HD5870 SOC might be a hard sell, on the upside it's Factory overclocked and has voltage adjustment available. On the downside we've seen voltage adjustment models in the $420 price range that manually OC just as well with nothing more than a few mouse clicks. Still, performance is high and it offers a unique feature set so we are scoring it an 8.5 and giving it the Silver award. If it were in a more competitive price range we could easily see 9 maybe 9.5 and a higher award."
"The build quality of the card is absolutely dazzling, when you look at the PCB you will be impressed. When you look at component usage, you will be impressed as well. Though the whole ultra durable design is a good marketing feature, the reality also is... it really works. Better component usage will grant you less heat, increased stability, better tweakability and also lifespan. "
"Just because the GTX 480 came out doesn't mean the HD 5000 series doesn't have any moves left. Today we take a look at very highly overclocked video card from Gigabyte. "
"If you're a fan of ATI, don't want to spend the money that's involved in going down the HD 5970 route, then this is a fantastic model for you. If you're gaming at the high 2560 x 1600 resolution as well, you can know with confidence that you're going to be out performing the GTX 480 in many situations."
