Roundups and Shootouts

Asus & Gigabyte X58 Mobo Roundup - DriverHeaven
Over the last year or two we have come to the conclusion that Asus are not capable of making a bad high-end motherboard and the P6T Deluxe continues a fine tradition of well made performance products. It was clear from the moment we unboxed the huge bundle of extras that Asus have gone above and beyond the level anyone would expect. Whether it is the sheer number of cables which ensure even the most packed system is catered for, or the nice little touches that make builds easier such as the Q-Connectors or Q-Shield ... Asus have everything pretty much perfected. For those who want the best performing X58 board they can find, with all the performance features available (such as 3-way SLI) there is very little need to look any further than the EX58-UD5. We are confident that Gigabyte will resolve the BIOS/compatibility issues soon and this, combined with a very attractive price, earns this product our Gold Award.

While some might argue that this is too expensive, we feel that given all the features this X58 board brings to the table that it is priced at a very reasonable level. Considering that the other boards of it's caliber are priced in the same range and have in many cases less than half the features, we feel the price is actually quite good. Cost-conscious shoppers might like the standard (non-OC Palm edition) ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard more; especially when it costs significantly less.

The Asus P6T Deluxe is an Easy Overclocker that is feature rich and delivers a good punch. The attention Asus paid to this early release board is phenomenal.
If you are in the market for a Core i7 system, the ASUS P6T Deluxe is a superb motherboard that oozes quality from every component and has compelling features that other boards do not, which help to justify a slightly higher price. Uncompromising stability and speed don’t always come cheap; if you buy the best the first time, you only cry once.

ASUS has the performance, features and reliability that they are known for. As with any new chipset launch, motherboards can and will improve as the chipset matures. ASUS has already launched six or seven boards using the X58 chipset in them and it will be interesting to see how those fare against the P6T-Deluxe OC Palm edition board in upcoming reviews. Asus gets a solid Hot Product award for the new P6T as I excels in many areas for the new i7 platform.

Overclocking the board was painless, however the MSI Eclipse had a lot more headroom for overclocking - so if you are looking for an extreme overclocker, you are better off with an Eclipse, however if you want the best stock results without any tuning, you cannot go wrong with the Asus P6T Deluxe.
