THE GOOD: Intel Gigabit CSA Ethernet, 875P & ICH5R chips, SATA RAID, ASUS quality & performance.THE BAD: It's a little expensive, bit of a pain to install XP to a RAID array. SUMMARY: I'm confused as to exactly how one is supposed to do 0+1 RAID as ASUS claims this board will do, since you can connect a maximum of 2 drives each to either the IDE RAID connector or the 2 SATA RAID connectors?!?
We couldn't even get IDE RAID 1 to work, we emailed ASUS tech. support but so far, no reply. We ended up buying a pair of IDE/SATA adapters for one of our new systems, waiting to hear back from ASUS what solution they will offer us since both their web page AND the motherboard's box claim to support this.
Otherwise, the board is great. Fast, stable, lots of features ~ USB 2.0, Firewire, decent onboard audio, plenty of overclocking options, and the use of the Intel CSA for the Ethernet means less wasted PCI bus bandwidth, even if you don't need Gigabit yet. I haven't had to use this feature yet but it sounds great: "Crash Free BIOS", means you won't have to send the board back to ASUS for repair if you f#@k up the BIOS when you try to flash it. |
