Accton AC-IAG1004 Internet Gateway Router User ReviewsPC
Stable (firmware 1.41.007), cheap, easy to setup... blah blah blahThe bad:
Limited Port forwardings, non stateful inspection firewall, limited tweakings...Summary:
Got this a year ago, and, the only network downtimes are caused by the motorola surfboard cable modem or isp network outages. Running web, email, and bittorrent services with no complaints
The support is rather kewl, the power transformer contact points broke off, and Accton got it replaced FOC, seems like a known problem.
If you find this broadband router hard to setup, i guess you should not be using one, cuz, u r an IT idiot. I admit the documentation is rather lame, but, all you need is the router setup menu IP, the rest is kinda idiot proof! unless you want to pay extra for some markett...
I Like that you can use it for cable/DSL/ISDM/Dialup WAN interface with no changes to LAN setup(Pitty no USB support)The bad:
The documentation... its crap and the support... well none... and debugging well forget that too...Summary:
I found it great for solving the problem of small Home office situations with multiple PC's even managed to get Net meeting working through it. Seemed easy to get going especially with DSL.
Problem 1 DHCP server seems to go off line after 1-2 days in which the LAN side PC then can't access the router without rebooting the router. Fixed this by at least one PC with static IP address.
Problem 2 (which appeared after problem 1 work around) after running for a while (1-2 days) WAN access goes very slow which again needs a reboot to fix problem.
cheap (as long as one doesn't count the frustrating hours of trying to find out what makes it go.)The bad:
practically useless documentation. ICQ needs to have 10 ports open. after 8 months I'm still trying to achieve that.!!! anyone out there that knows the secret??Summary:
i have the firewall disabled and everything else open but can't get ICQ to work. "no tpc port open.....no udp port open" is the message when setting up a winXP. does anyone know how to set this thing up or where to get help. accton just say : it's all working and hand it back . they have no idea it seems.
I have been using one of these for over a year and find it to be fast and reliable to the point of even forgetting it is there. The bad:
The config screens could be more efficient in terms of the time, number of keys and pages it takes to set it up.Summary:
All in all I am quite happy with this router. I seem to recall some concern when initially installing it because of poor documentation but once I figured that out it has been running 24/7 ever since.
Low cost, slim and small. Small footprint compared to Linksys. The bad:
Documentation as good as Windows handbook.Summary:
I got this because a friend got this and it worked okay. It was cheaper than most other internet gateways so I thought I'd give it a try.
First bomb - When trying to talk to it, it said something to the effect of, 'I can't run. I need something.' I couldn't figure out what was going on. The quick installation manual didn't say a thing about it. There was no full installation manual as opposed to the quick installation manual. I thought it may be a firmware issue cause there was a little box and beside it a browse button. I searched for an hour and found the driver hoping that it'll work and ...
This F----ng router has wasted my time. I got 3 of these at AUS $230 each and now I feel like I have thrown $690 down the drain. Not only the money I have wasted 4 weeks of my time trying to get it going for customer; not to mention the embarrasment. Support team of this router company (ACCTON) have no clue what they are talking about. It is a load of crap.
