Quality has declined

The good:

Samsung used to make very good monitors.

The bad:

955DF died, dedd, less than a year.

Summary:

In my view Samsung used to make very good monitors. Almost all of my experience has been with CRT's that I generally favor because of issues such as longetivity, and price. I have bought as many as ten monitors. The only way these monitors died was a result of old age and usage that exceeded five years or so. Most are still alive today.

I have to make my comments from in a comparitive sense to the older units I ahve owned. Regarding the 955DF, this is my most recent purchase. I picked it up from Best Buy just less than a year ago. I settled on this unit as the better unit was not availab...

Samsung SyncMaster 955DF

The good:

Perfectly Flat
Decent Controls

The bad:

Fuzzy text
Poor picture quality

Summary:

I've only had this monitor for couple of days before returning it to the store. Despite the presence of million controls, I was unable to make the text sharp, continuously seeing a redish ghost shadow around the text. Picture looks decent in games. This is definitelly a monitor for people on a budget.

Quality Monitor for the Masses

The good:

Great price, quality display (looks great with games) and features normally found on higher end monitors.

The bad:

Apparently if you're doing a lot of graphics intensive work you probably don't want this, but for the rest of us who just play games and surf around it seems wonderful.

Summary:

Beautiful monitor at a spectacular price.. For higher end applications you may want to shell out the extra dough for one of the higher quality displays, but for everyday use this one is beautiful.

Incredible Value

The good:

Price, Quality

The bad:

Hefty size

Summary:

I got this monitor from www.techonweb.com (who I also highly recommend) for $240 + $40 shipping minus a $40 Samsung rebate (which hopefully I'll receive). Even if I'd paid $100 more, I wouldn't be disappointed. This is an awesome monitor. Images and text are as colorful and crisp as I could want. I suppose one could pay twice as much and get a very minimal improvement, but why? I'm planning on purchasing another for a dual monitor setup. The monitor is pretty large, but two of 'em will fit nicely on my desktop.

I do have a complaint with Samsung though on their rebate program...why only all...

Two Major Complaints - The Rest I Like

The good:

Great price. Love the flat screen. Virtually no Moire patterns. Tons of controls. Nice looking image. Bright Colors.

The bad:

High distortion in the vertical direction. High amount of ghosting with images. Analog brightness and contrast control.

Summary:

Overall, I'm impressed with this monitor. It's priced right, can display pretty high resolutions, has a good image, and has lots of controls. Using DisplayMate, I was suprised to find that there was a lot of distortion in the vertical direction on the Circle Test Patterns. Also, there is a high amount of ghosting when displaying dark images. I was pretty dissapointed with this. I wish that it could do 1600X1200 at 75Hz. It can only go to 65Hz. That's not too much of a problem though because it is an awfully high resolution to be at, making the screen harder to read. It would just be...
