My Bad | 5.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Installs fine when you do it right.THE BAD: I made a mistake. SUMMARY: My goal was to swap this card for an installed D-Link card in my XP box. My approach was to remove the D-Link card from Device Manager and then to physically remove the card. When I tried to install the Linksys card XP wouldn't detect it the normal way. I tried this approach many times.
I restored my system and tried another approach, installing the Linksys while the D-Link was still in the case. This time XP detected the Linksys and installed the correct drivers. I ran the connection wizard and got the Linksys working. As a last step I un-installed the D-Link and everything was just like I'd wanted.
Where I went wrong with the first attempt was not removing the network bindings from the D-Link card before un-installing it. If you don't do this it appears that XP can't install another network adapter correctly. So, this card works fine, my method was faulty. Odd how I couldn't find the right method for replacing a network adapter anywhere. People must need to do this from time to time. |

THE GOOD: I have the receipts and am taking this POS back to Zellers.THE BAD: Installs in XP and won't work. All there is is a yellow excalmation mark. Downloaded drivers and it doesn't do one bit of good. SUMMARY: Jumping J.C.! This is 2003, who has time for this sh*t? Something that won't work with XP isn't worth pissing on. I only wanted to replace my old, old D-Link card which was 10MB with a 10/100. I thought this would be dead easy. |

THE GOOD: Works once installedTHE BAD: Would be very difficult for people not familiar with computers SUMMARY: The directions that are provided with this card state clearly that "a:/win98" must be typed in when called for. Keep directing the install to that path and it should install just fine except for the fact that it doesnt always install the microsoft protocols on its own. So yes this card is very difficult for newbies and moderately difficult for experienced users to install. But for the price I'll accept that but most will not. Thank You, my 2 nothings! |

THE GOOD: the card worked on linux, no problem at allTHE BAD: the card didn't work on windows SUMMARY: The card is good and cheap. I really like the fact that it worked on linux right out of the box, SuSE linux 8.0 detected it, and activated it for me. The bad thing about this card is that i didn't work on windows, the driver on the disk did not work, this is really stupid, the card is targeted for windows users yet it does not work on windows. The worst thing about this card was the fact that i could not download the driver from linksys website. dumb, dumb, dumb linksys. only reason i would ever buy from this company again, is because their cards work on linux |

THE GOOD: Costs less than LNE100TX
THE BAD: Not intended as top of line at Linksys SUMMARY: I bought a second one last week for home networking. The computer had trouble recognizing the driver at first - blank list. Had to mess with the network configuration settings but I installed it. I guess there might have been a problem in clearing out the old driver LNE100TX (for my personal machine), I'm not sure. No problems installing the first card.

THE GOOD: Good Price, easy to plug inTHE BAD: Could not get the driver to install after multiple attempts. SUMMARY: After failing to install drivers with the provided disk, I tried downloading the driver off the support website. It did not work either. While trying to locate a good driver, I read multiple comments from persons posting similar problems needing help and not getting it from the company support |

THE GOOD: great card for my windows environments.THE BAD: NO FRIGGIN DRIVER ON LINKSYS WEBSITE, AND THE NETWORK EVERYWHERE SITE IS ALWAYS DOWN SUMMARY: so, i got this friggin NIC, saving a whopping 5 bucks from Best Buy, and it has worked fine. BUT, the driver availibility issue is REALLY annoying.
i know you all are getting a little pissy about it, so to help inprove my karma a little i am offering the floppy disk on my website
http://www.rooftop235.com/ has the driver in the downloads section, because im cool like that. any other rare drivers you all want let me know, i and some friends have over 265GB of archived data. email me because i will never be at this board again most likely. the driver is in .zip format. they include every file that is on the floppy, so all you linux users....theres your driver as well.
and im not gonna redo the file in .rar or .sit .sif formats because i aint gettin paid for this.
have fun, dave c, masshole |
