THE BAD: Power Calibration Error on 90% of the cds. No technical support The device has been sent back 3 times to archos and was never fixed
SUMMARY: This thing almost turned me crasy. Spending hours trying to burn CDs that won't ever work, rebooting the workstation everytimes it crashes. I don't know if i spend more money on the burner itself or on all those Blank cds left useless after an attemps. Don't count the nights, letters sent to archos, month waiting for the burner to be fixed, and for nothing since i got my burner back everytime, (3 times) and it never worked better. I don't trust this company any more, especially because they are expensive, and the service should be better.
THE BAD: everything you could imagine if this responding to a name it would be "hitler"
SUMMARY: this fine piece of crap is the most annoying and frustrating bit of equiptment I have ever had the misfortune of using. I look for drivers everywhere, download, use the disk provided NOTHING works with it, its like a was made just to get on my nerves. Each time I see it I feel like kicking it through the front door, each time I attemp to locate drivers I might aswell spit in my own eyes and punch myself in the spine. I have nothing but pure hate for this product....
THE BAD: Doesn't work 90% of the time, Drivers don't work...even the new ones.
SUMMARY: I paid top dollar to have the availablity of a mini CD RW and boy oh boy did I get taken!!! Hard to use, lost data, terrible if you don't have a week to figure it out, and all around the worst piece of computer equipment I have ever purchased. I would even take back my old 8 track tape player over this piece of equipment that isn't even big enough to make a boat ancher out of. Oh, and did I forget the wonderful service provided by the French? I only wish they had send Bin Laden one of these... he never would have hurt anyone.
SUMMARY: I now have a lovely collection of coasters thanks to this USB piece of garbage. It refuses to work under W2K, when you need it in a hurry it totals CDRs, locks your PC up and steadfastly refuses to give the trashed CD back to you. About 1 in 10 CD's actually burns.
I bought this for the company I work for. If I'd sppent my money on it, I'd be even more disappointed.
Everything said on this board is true!! How can these people get away with selling such rubbish.Countless E.Mails for assistance without reply-and enough ruined CDRs to supply the local pub with coasters. Talk about take the money and run!! To anyone thinking of buying it DONT or you will be sorry its a waste of good cash.(Plus you have got to add on the cost of a good shrink because after a few hours with this heap of..... you are going to need one!)
THE BAD: Driver support sucks. Archos tech support are non-existant. Bulky power supply - defeats the purpose of portability! Lid is flimsy. Opening mechanism is rediculous. Heats up quickly!
SUMMARY: Ok. First, I read the reviews from major internet magazines, who said that this was a pretty good buy. Not the best, but given the size and portability, it is a good buy. So I took their advice.
My impressions when I used it:
1. Firstly, I bought this unit for my laptop - I want portability. So, Archos is the smallest out there. Naturally, I thought it could be powered by USB or the PC card alone - not a chance. It REQUIRES the bulky power supply to function - hence defeating the purpose of portability. You carry the main unit, data cable, and the power supply with you.
2. This would probably be a good CDRW - if it WORKS. After making several coasters, I have determined that 8x speed burning DOES NOT WORK - PERIOD. Tried in Win98se, Win2k. Tried new drivers, tried 'em a...
SUMMARY: I cannot find a single way to make this baby dance in any os. I have tried in three different ones and the missing link is supposed to be isd200.inf... where does this file exist and Im guessing it won't work even if I do find it. This is going on my desk as a paper weight and a reminder of how much i love well known brands:)
SUMMARY: Have tried this thing on three different computers: two desktops running W98/SP1, and a laptop running W2000 Professional. Bottom line: unpredictable hangups, failure to recognize, OCCASIONALLY can actually burn a CD from mp3 files. Seems to do better copying audio CDs. Can't get any help from Archos. My conclusion: a real piece of crap. Can anyone out there help me? Archos sure can't!
