Collect all of the heart tanks, sub tanks, ride armors, and regular Dr. Light upgrades. Don't go into any of the pink capsules.

In the first stage of Doppler's lab, make your way to the area where spiked balls fall from the ceiling. Slide down the left side of the first pit with full health and go into the capsule that's on the other side of the fake wall you'll find.

This upgrade provides you with the abilities of all four of the chips (normally, you can only get one per file), but it can't be saved via password.

Defeat Vile with Ray Splasher or Spinning Blades before Doppler's lab appears. In the second stage of the lab, switch to Zero before you enter the room that contains the giant mosquito mechaniloid.

When it's destroyed, Zero will be seriously injured and give X the Z-Saber. This is the most powerful weapon as it can destroy any boss with two shots. It can be saved with a password but be warned; getting the Z-Saber means sacrificing Zero. You won't be able to play as him and he won't appear in the ending.
