Prevent backup help
When faced with only one or two enemies, try to shoot their radio/codec with a small weapon to prevent them from calling in reinforcements.

Use pipes to disable enemies
If a guard is next to a hot pipe, you can use it to your advantage. Shoot the pipe in specific locations to release steam and disable the guard. If the steam hits his leg he will limp and not be able to follow you properly. If the steam hits his arm he cannot shoot. If the steam hits his radio he will not be able to alert backup.

Gain Extra Grip Strength
While hanging, go into first-person view and press L2 and R2 together to do pull ups. Do 100 of them (take brakes when your grip meter gets low). You'll beef up so that your grip meter drains slow.

As soon as a guard thinks he spots you (which results in a blue "!" mark) shoot the "!" and he'll pass out on his feet.

When you are in the Metal Gear Arsenal you'll start out in the Arsenal Gear-Stomach and when you get out it'll say that you're in Arsenal Gear-Jejunum... and when you go back into the stomach it'll be the same thing. BUT when you get out it'll say Aoyoma Ni-Chome and when you go back in it'll say that your on 23 street New York. Then go out and back in again it will say Azabu-Juban or it'll switch it up.
When you continue on go to the stairs on the right, the Colonel will call and say something really random so every time he calls from then on, he'll be kinda funny at first but then it'll get annoying really fast.
He'll call even when you are fighting the Genome Soldiers.
The funny thing is that the one when they have these scenes and there's one when he's talking about Wolf and Meryl are about Metal Gear Solid 1 for the PSX or the Original PlayStation.
Once you call him a certain amount of times a girl who was filmed wil appear on your radar, but once you enter the room that your supposedly to go to. You'll then be lock out. Good Luck <img src="http://i.neoseeker.com/d/icons/smile.gif" border=0 vspace=2 alt="" /> lol!

During the game, you will find dog tags that are awarded for holding-up enemies. If you gain enough dog tags, you'll gain rewards.
So, in the Tanker, gain 46 dog tags (30%) and you'll gain the Bandana.The Bandana gives Solid Snake unlimited ammunition when it is selected in his item list. Next, you have Stealth that is unlocked at 78 dog tags (50%). This will make Solid Snake invisible to all enemies (in the exclusion of Bosses). It is deactivated and unequipped when you bump into an enemy.
In the Plant, it starts off with the Infinity Wig that is unlocked at 73 dog tags (30%). This has the same properties as the Bandana. At 121 dog tags (50%) you unlock Stealth. At 170 dog tags (70%) you unlock the Wig B, that gives you unlimited grip. Finally, at 218 dog tags (90%) you unlock the Wig A, that gives you unlimited O2 when swimming.
Obviously, sneaking up behind almost all enemies in the game can be a bother as you can easily be heard or spotted. This can be avoided easily though in the Plant from when you get the Coolant Spray onwards.
First, tranquillize all enemies in the area. Then, approach whichever soldier you wish to search. Then, whip out your Coolant to wake them up. It is easier to do this when the enemy is facing you as it can be tricky getting into their view. After waking the enemy, he will stay on the floor for around two seconds, holding his head. Use this time to take out your SOCOM and aim it at him. When he gets up, Raiden will yell "Freeze!" and the soldier will raise his arms. If the soldier is reluctant to hand over his dog tag, you may shoot him once in the arm or leg and then aim at his head again. This will always work and although it is slow, it is safe.
To stop the annoying procedure of searching the same guard twice, equip the camera when looking at an enemy and hold down Triangle. If you have the guard's dog tag, his name will show blue above his head.
NOTE: You cannot obtain dog tags from reinforcements or from the Arsenal Tengu.

When your disposing of the C4 in Shell 1 for Pete, leave the C4 in Strut A and dispose of the bombs in Struts B through F. Then you will get a codec message from Pete telling you he faked his leg injury. Head straight over to Strut C and you will be able to get Sensor B before Pete tells you to pick it up. Now head over to Strut A and dispose of the last C4. Now go out onto the roof of Strut A and you will get another codec message from Pete that starts the timer by telling you to head over to Strut A as fast as possible. BUT YOUR ALREADY THERE! The timer starts with you at the elevator leading to the Deep Sea Dock.

When fighting Solidus on the roof at the end of the game, drop off the lower side of the roof. Raiden will catch himself, when Solidus is close enough (he will advance on you and try to kick you off), just before or as he attacks, jump up (you will be invincible as you do this) and attack Solidus with a combo. Jump back down and you will also dodge his missiles. This doesn't seem to work on Extreme/European Extreme, but only after he gets rid of his metal arms so you can still get him below half.

In the tanker when you have to go through holds, there should be a door in the ground below ladder from which you came. Use the action button to open, then go through. Exit on the other side and go through to hold 2. Find door in floor and crawl through the passage and you will be in hold 3 easily. Then get out to where you can take pictures yourself. Take a picture of Ocelot and send to Otacon.

When you get to the part where your mission is to find Ames, go to the B2 floor of the shell 1 core. After grabbing the Directional Microphone, go to the right of that room where there are 4 lockers. If you look in First Person View, you will see a Book on top of it. Punch at the locker it is on top of. After Raiden performs his spinning kick, 5 Books will fall to the floor. Grab them all, and head to B1. Watch the Guard's path. Find an open spot that he goes to, that also has no hostages nearby (such as in between the tables, or by the counter), and put one book down. He will stop and look at it, giving you a few minutes that you can use to find Ames. After a bit, the book disappears, and you can just put another one down for him. This also helps, because he won't hear it if you ask the wrong hostage and they make noise.

Run up behind a guard and point your tranquilizer or any other gun towards him. Don't go in front of him, he'll just watch you for a moment, then shoot you because it will appear you are not going to shoot him. Anyway, he'll put his hands up and sit for a few seconds. Eventually, he'll say 'Nothing here', and won't call backup. After that, shoot him. If you stay there longer, without shooting him, he'll turn and shoot you because, like if you aproach him from up front, he'll think you are bluffing.

Now go back upstairs and hop onto the platform with the three lights on it. Using the box, get onto the conveyer belt. Wait through the ride, and once it brings you into the room, get off and you'll see an item box on the floor. That's the digital camera.

First, get behind a guard, use your gun (as long as it's a pistol) to point at the guard by holding square. Snake or Raiden will say "Freeze!" then get in front of the guard by pointing at his dick. The guard will say something like "Please don't shoot!" Then he will start to wiggle then a dog tag should come out. Then you can shoot the guard. (Use a M9. It's a good idea to use without the guards noticing something's wrong. Or put a clip on your other gun.)

You guys remember Johnny from MGS1 with the stomach ache problem? Well, it turns out he's 'heard' TWICE in MGS2! There's an older cheat telling you where the 1st appearance is. I'll tell you both.

1st appearance: In Shell 1-Core where the hostages are being held. Once you found Agent Ames and start to listen in on the conversation between Ocelot and Solidus (fake Solid Snake), turn the Directional Mic somewhere towards the left to the corner of the room. You'll hear Johnny complaining about his stomach ache in the lavatory. haha

2nd appearance: I found this out by accident following up on the "Dirty Thoughts" cheat on this page. When you're in the sniping position for clearing the path for Emma Emmerich (E.E.)at the oil fence, you can listen in on Snake's "dirty thoughts"..Now, instead, when E.E. reaches the second "Checkpoint" (it's the big tower) on the oil fence, point the Directional Mic towards the tower she's at and you should be able to hear a conversation between E.E. and Johnny! I personally thought this was more hilarious than the other one! haha!

When Solidus attempts to suffocate you with his "arm extensions" on top of the arsenal gear you are supposed to press a certain button repeatedly in order to survive (triangle button in my game). While in difficulties from easy-hard this isn't impossible, many people isn't able to pass this test on extreme and european extreme, and not everyone who can't pass the "test" can go and buy a an auto-fire controller.
So there is a trick that makes your O2 gauge drop slower (this doesn't mean that you have to stop mashing the button when he suffocates you). Now when the cut-scene on top of the Arsenal Gear begins, you can't move, but you can "turn your head" so move to the left; you'll see Snake and Fortune there. When Solidus stops talking and starts to suffocate you quickly start pressing the button but at the same time turn your head to the left again, but now you can turn "more" to the left, up to a point where you will be able to see Ocelot, keep the analog stick to the left to keep watching Ocelot while you mash the button. Believe it or not now your O2 gauge will drop slower, I know it doesn't make any sense why this happens, but it is true. It was thanks to this I was able to survive in both extreme and european extreme.

Whilst fighting against Olga on these settings you only have 1 or 2 hits by her then you die.

To make this not seem so hard:
Go to the set of crates all next to each other on the right side of the screen, get her attention to one side and go to the other, go on your tiptoes (R2+L2 together) and shoot over the little box until she starts to shine the lights into your eyes.

When she does this you can shoot her through the gap where there's a box above and at both sides, keep shooting her legs and she will eventually run out of energy and you'll defeat her... In this position she can only throw granades at you which you can run forwards and avoid really easily.

When playing as Snake in the tanker mission go to Deck-A Crew Quarter's and find the lockers. Once you find the lockers start opening them all until you find one with a poster of a girl. When you find it push R1 to look at it and call Otacon while looking at it and Snake will be jacking off. Snake has to be standing outside the locker and looking at the poster for this to work.

Find a guard that's all alone, and shoot him with the M9 once to knock him out, then shoot at his radio until it sparks. Then, depending on the chapter you're in, wait in a corner somewhere until he wakes up on his own or wake him yourself with the coolant spray. Step in front of him so that he sees you. When he tries to call backup, he will discover that it doesn't work. That leaves him to try to fight you all by his lonesome instead of having a bunch of armor-wearing soldiers alongside him.

Bandana: Collect 30 dog tags in the Tanker Level. When you equip the bandana you get infinite ammo. Hint, the bandana can only be used in the Tanker Level.

Stealth: Collect 60 dog tags in the Tanker Level and 120 in the Plant Level. When equipped you will become invisible to everything and everyone except for the bosses.

Infinite Ammo Wig: Collect 80 dog tags in the Plant Level. When you equip this wig you get infinite ammo for the Plant Level.

Infinite Grip Wig: Collect 160 dog tags in the Plant level. When you equip this wig you get infinite grip for the Plant Level.

It is helpful when in the boss battle with Fatman to lay down a few claymore mines in various spots. That way, while you are running around difusing his bombs, and he is skating around taunting you and planting more bombs, the mines can do some of the job of killling him. That is to say, instead of relying solely on cathcing up to him and shooting him, you can also get part of the job of killing him done this way while you are busy defusing bombs, and time spent difusing bombs is not time spent 100% without inflicting any damage on him. Now, he won't run into every mine you lay, he may only run into one or two, but it helped me kille him. It also helped me conserve gun amo because I did not have to always rely on shooting him to get him to fall in order to get a shot or two blasted in his big bald head. The bombs would lay him out in one felled swoop and all I had to do was run over and shoot his head before he got up. Now, you have to be sure not to run into the field of view of the mines yourself but I did not have trouble avoiding them. Hope this helps you. Also, when fighting Vamp, you can shoot him with stinger missles even when he is under water. Also, if you launch a grenades into the water, they will inflict damage on him when he swims into them. I submitted these tips because I did not see them anywhere else.

While in a Guard's Disguise, get near a camera and roll and fall down (if there are stairs, roll on those and you will fall face first).

When the camera notices you, the Camera will think you are one of them (since your in disguise) and then he will say the "Whats going on respond". Stay down, and guards will come over to try and help you! But once they come they will kick you to wake you up and your diguise will be lost.. Just get up and walk away! (That shows how much detail was put into the game, as guards actually think your one of them while hurt!)

To beat Fatman easily start off by disposing his bombs with the coolant which just isn't hard at all. Then wait till he is skating at you and shoot him three or four times until he is on the floor. After that get close to him and shoot him in the head, this takes off large amounts of his energy.Do this a few times and he will almost be beaten. Lastly you need to find his last bomb, just pick him up and drag him away and there it is.

When playing on extreme mode you can find a tiki doll. In the first floor of the shell 2 core, shoot a nikita missle into the duct closest to the staircase (farthest right). Make two left turns and there will be a tiki doll. There's no way to reach it that I know of. When you go to get emma there will be a doll in the locker to the right of her location. when you approach it, it will blow up like a claymore. also, you can blow up the grates in the ducts with five or six nikitas. Its best to use the brown wig if you have it.

Instead of waiting for the metal gear to open its mouth and shoot its laser at you, shoot it in the leg, one or the other and it will open its mouth to scream (if metal gears can scream), then you have plenty of time to target its mouth without having to dodge the laser.

    There are lots easter eggs/cheats in the tanker holds:

    * Take a photo of the right screen in Hold 2 when it is off - it's Hideo!

    * In hold 2, press triangle near the projector to change screens. Do it enough and a movie with a Japanese model will start. Do it again and it'll appear on both screens. But eventually, after pressing it one too many times, it'll change back into Scott Dolph, and you will be caught. (unavoidable)

    * Upload various pictures to Otacon for funny responses - try taking a picture of: a girly poster, the Raven doll, several pictures of Scott Dolph (the guy giving the long speech), the Eyewire poster, the Mooch couple in one photo, a Marine in his underwear and Revolver Ocelot (see below). There are many others, just try a few.

    * If you look carefully from the platform/catwalk you climb up to, after crawling through all the vents into Hold 3 (where there is a pole you can slide down), unequip your weapon and look over the edge in first person mode. You can see Ocelot. Take a picture and send it to Otacon. And no, you can't shoot Ocelot.

    * Not really an easter egg or cheat, but stil fun: if you have stealth, stand in the corner of the marines and face them, and perform a spinning kick. Watch every single marine in the room go flying and fall over as they all fall into each other. Also take a look at the now multi-color radar! You can also only kick and knock out specific rows of guards, so you can drag away a guard for their dog tag, instead of tranquilizing each and every guard.

    * On the second play-through, all the marines in hold 3 will be in boxers.

    * Getting caught in different rooms give you different endings.

    Right after you fight the Harrier Jet, drop down from the ledge to the pipe. From the pipe, do a roll, (flip if you're Raiden) across the pipe to the PSG1 ammunition. Head up the stairs and get the other ammunition. Use the coolant to spray out the fire on the left and congratulations, you just got the AKS-74u Suppressor.

    On floor b1 of shell 2, take some time to knock out each guard with your tranq... or just kill em, but when you do that, point your gun at the parrot in the center of the computers, it says "top of the lockers!" Take a hint from this and run out to the locker on the left, you'll see a magazine on top, do a few punches/kicks on it and a whole mess of magazines fall out! You can get infinite magazines to use to distract guards! These make it really easy to sneak up on them.

    If you walk on seagull sh/t you trip/fallover. This happens at the top of strut A and on the pipe just after the harrier. Also, if you shoot a seagull that is above and enemys head, It will fall and knock the enemy out!

    p.s,try looking at a seagull that is direcly above your head with the scope (makes sure you have some sort of tissue ready).

    In the Holds 2 room, go all the way to the left to find a hatch. Open it and you will climb into a small area. Crouch down and go through a small vent on the ground. You will eventually see a gun clip fall through and a man will start talking. His shadow will be on the ground. Wait there until the shadow leaves then move through the area. After you get past that you will reach an opening and an intermission sequence will begin. After it ends crawl through a vent on the right side of the small room. After you crawl through you will find a ladder. Climb up the ladder and it will lead you to a small perch. Look down at the bottom of Metal Gear RAY and you will see Ocelot standing there. You can keep doing this and experiment with things to do with Ocelot

    There are 3 ways to get across the holds. Above, on the ground, and below the ground.

    Above: Once you enter the holds, go down the ladder and cross the 1st hold. Go up the ladder all the way to the top. Hang over the ledge and go all the way to the right side. You can do this in the 2nd hold too, which will lead you to the final hold, where you will still be in the top level near the head of Metal Gear.

    On the Ground: This is the simple and most straight foward way. Just go to the final hold without making any noise, and not being seen.

    Under the ground: Cross the hold all the way to the other side. There should be a little door in the ground. Press the action button to open this open. Go down the ladder and crawl all the way to the end of Hold # 1. Get out and then go through the door to Hold #2. There should be another door in the ground. Go in it and crawl all the way to the final hold. Be careful as a soldier will drop a clip. Make sure that you do not get in the soldier's vision while he is looking for his clip. Wait till his shadow disappears before you keep going. Once you reach the final hold, you will be under Metal Gear. There should be a vent on the right side of the little room that you are in. Crawl through that small vent. Then go up the ladder and slide down the pole, and now you are in the final hold.

    You will find this item in the Strut F Warehouse Card Level 2 room where you pick up the AKS-74U on Very Easy.

    To obtain the AKS-74U suppressor on other modes, flip/cartwheel (using X) off of the "ramp" on the Shell 1-2 Connecting Bridge (located just to the left of the metal beam), following the Harrier boss fight. You will need to hit X right as you run to the edge to land safely. Among two other items is the AK.SUPR. It lies behind the small fire. You will be contacted on the cellphone telling you how to put it out (use the coolant spray). Equip the suppressor and the weapon at the same time to suppress the gun.

    On the PLANT episode as Raiden you can wake up guards wich you have tranquilised by using the coolant Stillman gives you. Just spray the coolant on the guard untill all of the Z sybols have dissapeared and they wake up letting you hold them up for their dog tags.This makes getting all the dog tags much easier.
