Turok: Evolution

THE BAD:
extremely difficult (even with cheats). the flaying portions, though a nice thought, were not executed well (like an after thought). AI was not consistent.

SUMMARY:
bottom line: a nice FPS but only with the cheats in place.... and lets face it after youve used the rocket launcher to destroy nearly unstoppable foes for the 1000th time it does get kind of boring. had they perfected the flight portions or replaced them with more FPs levels, as well as toned down the difficulty, this would have been a real winner

THE BAD:
Fun Factor- Its overall a pretty boring game unless you use cheat codes...

SUMMARY:
I was EXTREMELY excited about this game, first of all because I'm a huge First Person Shooter fan, and secondly because I am a big fan of the Turok franchise. I bought this game the day it came out, and took it home excitedly and popped it into my Xbox expecting something that was going to blow me away. All I got was something that blows. I got bored with it really quickly, especially considering the hype surrounding it. I think that I was expecting too much. The levels were long, but without enough action. You spent most of your time walking, with very few battles, and even then the fights were only fun at first seeing what all the weapons could do, but as soon as the novelty of an enemy puking and dying after you shot him with a poison arrow wore off, they too got boring and even monotonous. The reason for this is the shoddy enemy AI. Quite possibly the dumbest enemies in any game. Yet again I expected too much. Enemies would just stand there until you were on top of them, and even then, they weren't that bright. They'd get stuck on trees and rocks as well.

The one aspect of this game that was amazing were the graphics. I was amazed by the detail put into it, from the ability to knock trees over, to the little monkeys that danced around. The dinosaurs were amazing looking as well. The weapons effects and lighting effects in this game are the best that I've seen on Xbox thus far. On a scale from one to ten, I would definetly give the graphics a ten, and that is probably one of the reasons that I gave a score that is as high as it is.

I admit, I may be a bit overly critical of this game, but that is because of the history the Turok series has. Acclaim is expected to put out a top-notch product, and when compared with the other games in the series and the standards at the time they were released, I think that this game most definetly did not live up to the hype. Its a great game to check out. I think that it definetly deserves a rental, but in my humble opinion its not worth the fifty bucks...
