Pro Evolution Soccer 4THE GOOD: + Great gameplay + Great graphics
THE BAD: - Licenses
SUMMARY: So for about 10 years FIFA has been the dominate force in football games. But recently things have changed. And now Pro Evolution Soccer is starting to become the big footie game.
So how come PES is starting to overtake FIFA in being the best football game? The gameplay.
What makes PES stand out from FIFA is the way the beautiful game is played. I like FIFA's gameplay but Pro Evolution Soccer 4 really does take gaming to the next level with it's gaming. I see the difference in gameplay like this. FIFA is more of a grid, like a game of chess. You move from one place to the next. While PES is open and gridless. You can play smooth football and move into any position you wish. I don't think FIFA's grid system is bad but it does lack a bit of freedom, therefore making PES's gameplay better.
So lets look into the little bits of detail about PES's gameplay. When you pick up the ball you really do feel like you are in control and what you do next could change the outcome of the game. Making the wrong move could result in disaster and losing you the game. In FIFA you get the ball and start threading balls together but you don't get the flow which PES gives you. I also prefer PES's free kick system compared to FIFA's. FIFA is incredibly easy as you set up your free kick step by step. PES is much different and just gives you a camera angle behind the player and that's it. It is then up to you to decise where you should place the ball without any guidance (this also applys to the corners).
Okay, so at the moment you are probably thinking PES is miles better than FIFA in everyway. Well that's not true. And of course it is because of the licencing. As FIFA has been the dominate football game for roughly 10 years now Eidos managed to buy all the licences for the player names, team names, team kits and so on. And as PES arrived onto the scene a little later they had great difficulty getting the licenes and therefore failed miserably and were left with made up players, fake team names and kits without logos. Sure this doesn't effect the quality of the game but it is a downside to this great game.
What I really do hate about FIFA 2005 is Ally Mcoist blabbering on as he commentates your match. His voice is terribly annoying and he makes little sense. Well PES4 doesn't have a great commentary team but it does the job. The graphics on FIFA and PES are very different in my opinion and are great and they both have a good sound system.
Now when it comes to lifespan I can't decide which game is better. As I am more of a FIFA fan than a PES fan I have played FIFA for alot longer and FIFA 2005 has given me much more lifespan than PES has given me. I felt Master League on PES4 was tacky and didn't live up to Career Mode on FIFA 2005.
Konami are slowly becoming the most know football game across the world. All they need to do now is fix all the licenses and they are sorted.
