"It took a year on the shelves and the help of fast-food giant Burger King for the Xbox 360 to get its first kart racer in the form of Pocketbike Racer. One of three games released by Burger King and developer Blitz Games, Pocketbike represents the best gaming that your $3.99 can buy. The delight of seeing a man in a hamburger suit pilot a tiny motorcycle aside, Pocketbike Racer stands on its own as a rather solid racer in the grand tradition of Mario Kart, only with Burger King mascots filling in for the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom. And, unlike the other two games in the Burger King lineup, the single player experience is as enjoyable as the online.
With five game modes under its belt, Pocketbike Racer attempts to emulate the Mario Kart experience all while introducing some unique skill sets of its own. Standard races have players racing the mascot of their choice on five tracks at increasing speeds while guiding them through cone gates for boost power. This power can then be turned in for a shot of speed burst or one of many gadgets, such as rockets, flash bombs that turn the entire screen white, and disruptor rockets that flip the controls of your opponent. Cone trial mode has everyone racing about the course, attempting to meet a quota of successful cone gates before anyone else. Battle Royale offers the traditional battle mode on the same five courses as race modes. Lastly, Hardcore mode plays as a standard race only without power-ups or speed bursts.
While a bit unwieldy at first, Pocketbike becomes much more manageable at the higher speeds you unlock as you progress through the game. Power slides, as seen in other kart titles, are not only the core of the game but also vital to your success. There is a great sense of weight involved with the bikes, which instills a lot of confidence when flying through the air sideways, ready to rip around the next curve."
