THE GOOD:
The Good-
Classic 2D Gaming at it's best
Wide range of power-ups and vehicles
Challenging, to say the least
Replayability

Too short
Patience needed
Unfair situations (i.e. You with a pistol vs 20 000 men with rocket launchers and tanks)

Graphics. Though not really important, and to be fair, the series has to keep it's look, but they aren't great. Especially for current generation consoles.
This game is good. But it's short and hard to be considered as great as people are making it out to be.
The thing is; I read some of the other user reviews and they said this game was freaking awesome. It's not that good. It's fun, and a quick blast. But no game that is this short can be a brilliant game. I love it, but I have to bring down the hype so that people don't go under the impression that it's the best game ever.
About the game:
You chose 1 of 4 characters (2 players allowed). Then your game begins with your selected character (either Marco, Fio, Eri or Tarma) lands in the sea. You run onto the beach and see you first enemy; a giant crab. This is where the carnage begins. As you blast through the side-scrolling mess of dead enemies you find new guns and vehicles to kill things with. From the basic power-up of the "Heavy Machinegun!" to the Metal Slug tank itself. The game is one giant bullet-dodging, zombie-shooting soldier-stabbing action packed race form start to finish. Which can't be a bad thing.
The truth is that this is a good game, but if you're not into 2D gaming or the Metal Slug series, chances are you're not going to enjoy it as much as some people would.
I bought my copy for £8, and I enjoy the Metal Slug series. I suppose I was a bit lucky. If you find a copy for cheap, buy it. I doubt you'll regret it, just don't go expecting the world from it. |

This is simply great fun to play. An absolute no brain, full blasting shootem up which will have you hooked from the moment you pick it up.
The graphics are beautifull, witty and entertaining, and a refreshing change from the 3D game environments we have all grown so used to. When was the time a graphic made you laugh?
Alot has been made of the difficulty level but I'm of the opinion that a lot of games today are too easy, simply a case of sitting at your XBox till you reach the end. Metal Slug will challenge the best of you!
Longevity is an issue with this title but there are several ways to complete each level and two player mode will certainly provide a few more hours of fun (and arguments).
Metal Slug has reignited my love for simple 2D gaming and I strongly recommend it to anyone with £20 going spare!!

A couple of weeks ago,I went camping.Next to the fiushing game was Meat Slug 4.After playong it(1 buck a day),I got hooked to the sieries.But,after arriving home,I tried to find the game online and failed horribly.But,I found this and rented it and I LOVE IT!!!!The AI is wonderful;they just keep comming and comming,like Nam all over again.The levils rendered me speechless with a little humor and fantastic enemies.The levils challange me every time I even play.I find that Marco is best suited for this,while Eri should just become a hooker(Maby Fio too?)But,the enemies get harder,the levils exspand,and have multible routes.Buy it today,and enjoy till you fall asleep or mom tells you to go to church! |

Power-up weapons are the same for each person SUMMARY:
This game is an awesome return of an old arcade game. This is soo fun to play, getting to choose from one of four people and going along killing freak animal mutants. You go along kill enemies, and save poor men you have been stranded wherever you are, then when you save them they give power-ups that appear from underneath their towel magically. While each person has their own begining weapon, everytime you pick up a power-up it looks the same, which is a bit of a disapointment. Even so, this is an overall good game. |

This game is perfect. X-Box really brings back memories with this 2D shoot-em-up game. From the very start it is pure action, with guns, explosions, and BIG points! If you are a fan of those old games like this that you thought were gone forever due to the release of newer/better games, then this ones for you. Right after 5 seconds I knew this game was going to be awesome. If you are a fan of 2D shooting/action/challenging games, then DEFINITLY pick this one up. Just about everything in it is good, maybe the only bad thing is the occuring stress from how hard this game is. In this game, you can be one of 4 different and unique characters. Defeat enemies with pistols, heavy machine guns, and rocket launchers to get big points and get food. Not to mention some humor thrown in, when you get enough food and get fat as hell. This is one of the best games of the year. |
