"So short, so sweet. Two-player spins it out for a while, and there are Hard and Very Hard modes, but at £15 if you shop around Metal Slug 3 arguably transcends the usual rental recommendation. No lie, you'll finish the lot in a day. You can try and collect all the extras (Japanese radish and Chinese cabbage are all there for the taking), but there's no getting away from the fact that there's not enough in here to warrant shelling out full whack, no matter how perfect a slice of arcade action it may be."

"Metal Slug 3 is a faithful representation of that old school gaming experience, but the extremely high difficulty level, continue flaw and lack of additional features or levels past the original arcade game hinder this from restoring faith in the side scrolling genre."

"The game is a blast, just like its Neo Geo brethren, and offers some neat little bonus missions and modes."

"From a technical standpoint, this is a superb version of Metal Slug 3, and in some respects, it's even better than the original."

"Metal Slug 3 ships for Xbox at the end of May and is looking like a solid translation of the arcade shooter with a few cool additions. Anyone who loves tapping buttons as quickly as possible will be thrilled. There aren't many games like this available on Xbox and while it would have been nice for some Live functionality, Metal Slug 3 slots into the action 2D-scrolling void that so desperately needs filling on Xbox."
