SUMMARY: Mercenaries: Playground Of Destruction is an incredible way to have lots of fun to play especially when it comes to stealing vehicles, goofing around, shooting people and, blowing the crap out of everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's based on the near future and it involves getting into a War with the North Koreans and it's Leader General Choi Song. You get the opportunity to help out the Allies, South Koreans, it's rivals Chinese and my...
THE GOOD: Pretty much everything (more detailed description in 'Detailed Comments' section).
THE BAD: There's no boats or planes to drive, and you can't swim.
SUMMARY: Overall, Mercenaries is a great game. The story is set in North Korea, not to far from now. As President Kim started leaning towards democracy, his son, Choi Song, killed him. Now General Song has the country's nuclear codes, and he's threatening to send the world into Armageddon! This is where you come in. You play as an merc (mercenary) of ExOps (Executive Operations), Sent into a war torn North Korea to capture the 52 most dangerous people in the world, sorted into a deck of playing cards based on importance (Club, diamond, heart, spade is the order of importance, Ace's high) and stop Song from destroying the world.
In the beginning, you choose from 3 operatives: Chris Jacobs, Ex-U.S. soldier, can take an insane amount of punishment, i.e. tank shot in the face at point...
THE GOOD: huge environments, lots of vehicles, including helicopters, tanks, hummers, and the occasional civillian car. Weapons include shotgun, rocketlaunchers, airstrikes, snipers, grenades, and lots of fully automatic weapons.
THE BAD: You can't put a silencer on your weapons, and though it's more realistic, there's alot of recoil on weapons with scopes, like snipers and a certain automatic weapon that I will not say.
SUMMARY: It's got the bang for your buck. Weapons are fun to use, rocket launchers especially. Almost any thing can be sunk, bombarded, or just plain destroyed. Get cash after every mission, which can be used to get vehicles, weapons, and air strikes. You get contracts from different factions (S. Korea, Allied Nations, China, and the growing Russian Mafia) to do different stuff, all leading up to the nutralazation of North Korean leader Choy Song. Guns, money, and respect. What more could you want?
THE GOOD: as the advert says "blow stuff up... blow it up again... blow the living hell out of it"... wash rinse repeat and you have one of THE games of 2005... this game has almost everyhitng a game should have... guns most importantly... explosions and vehicles... also free roaming and after completing certain hidden item challenges to an extent you get new sins for your characters... my favourite is han solo
THE BAD: not much really... could've done with parachutes perhaps... maybe a few more weapons and a few boats... oh and the ability to swim...
SUMMARY: overall mercenaries is a fabulous game and a treat for almost any gamer... the ability to blow up every building and summon in airstrikes, vehicles and supplies at almost any time is just brilliant and the realism in enemy A.I is great... the graphics are drool enducing and... just buy the game and see it for yourself ok?
THE GOOD: The overall expetience works so well. Like all great games you end up giggling about how much un you're having
THE BAD: Not as free roaming as GTA
SUMMARY: What you have here is a natural hybrid- liked GTA? Like army style shooters? Why not combine them in a game called mercenaries.
First the bad. This is not the most original game in the world you will get certain moments of de ja vu. You can't explore everywhere and because the whole world is under a continuous pall of war smoke the view can be a bit drab. However that's about all I can criticise it for.
What you have here is freedom. Got to attack an enemy in a base- do you sneak in, go in all guns blazing, take a tank with you, flying in by helicopter, bring some troops with you in a Humvee to help you out or maybe you'll call in an air strike. The experience is pretty broad and the action is always fast and furious. It's all well put together, graphics rarely chug...
THE GOOD: The game world feels alive with conflict and detail; everything can be blown up, and this is a lot of fun to do
THE BAD: A little bit messy; not always precise and clear
SUMMARY: Mercenaries are people who, for all intents and purposes, get paid to kill people and/or blow things up. Many gamers, on the other hand, are people who pay other people to make games where they can kill virtual people and blow up digital things. If you're one of the latter, you'll probably be quite happy playing Mercenaries. We at X-Play are still counting, but this game quite possibly gives you more ways to wreak death and destruction on the surrounding landscape than any other game in history.
There are three characters available to act as your alter-ego, and unless you're incredibly picky you'll find one that you can live with. Rest assured, every operative is highly skilled in the arts of machine-gunnery and mid-air helicopter hijacking, but the...
Ever since Grand Theft Auto introduced the free world concept back in 2001, many other games have attempted to pile in on the concept but have either did a mediocre job or failed miserably. Mercenaries however does an excellent job borrowing the concept. Just like in Grand Theft Auto you recieve your missions by going to a specific marked location; in this case toward a respected faction's headquarters(Chinese, Allied Nations, South Korean, Russian Mafia). The goal in the game is to either incapacitate or give the Allies custody of 52 of the most dangerous men in North Korea. They are all arranged together by a Deck of cards. The most dangerous of them all being the Aces. The game also includes many many side missions and collecting as well that comes with rewards.
The landscape is very dull. Of course this does take place in a wartorn North Korea. The graphics are alright. Could it be better? Maybe.
The gameplay is also excellent. It is easy to handle and comes...
