"Maybe we can save some time here and review Eragon the game, Eragon the book, and probably Eragon the movie in one go: Did you like those Lord of the Rings games/books/movies, but thought they were kind of difficult? You'll love this.
Eragon is shockingly similar to the Lord of the Rings games that came from Stormfront Studios three years ago. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and not just because of the poetic irony of Eragon getting a rehashed Lord of the Rings game as a tie-in. If you'll remember, those Lord of the Rings games were actually pretty damn good. At least the developers picked a good game to keep making again and again.
Nevertheless, it wouldn't be exactly fair to just reprint those reviews with some slashes through the titles and character names. Like its predecessor, Eragon features pretty looking environments, good button-mashing gameplay, and some fancy setpieces. Unlike those other games, however, it's kind of a cakewalk. You won't feel pressed to utilize just the right combos for a given situation, and health boosts are generously doled out. Even the highest difficulty is pretty forgiving. The big standout in Eragon is the dragon-riding levels, which, to make a really obvious comparison, play a bit like Panzer Dragoon, only with a complete absence of anything resembling tension or demands on your reflexes. They're actually kind of relaxing."

"Eragon relies entirely on tedious, unenthusiastic gameplay that's way too shallow to sustain interest for more than a few minutes."
"Eragon isn't worth the brief amount of time it takes to play through it. The gameplay and presentation aren't up to snuff and the storytelling cutscenes don't do their job at all. Games based on movies are notorious for not living up to their big screen cousins, but all of the elements for creating a good action game of this nature have been laid out in the past so there isn't any excuse. Even if you're a huge fan of the fiction, a rental is the most time you'll want to spend with this game. Even that might be pushing it."
