XIII

13 is often considered by some to be a rather unlucky number, and the idea of enveloping a product of yours with such a mark would not seem like the best marketing practice for the superstitious. Yet there are signs that it is nothing more than a mere number as Ubisoft's XIII (because Roman Numerials are cooler) has enjoyed its fair share of success.

First, let's get some background details on this title. Unless you happen to have read up on this game previously then you may not know that this is actually based on a comic (or graphic novel - whichever you prefer) of the same name. Therefore it is not too surprising that the story is exceptional, although credit is still due to the writers on the development team for taking the premise of the series and translating it into a coherent video game format.

The fact that due to how under-rated it is, we probably won't get a sequel.

XIII is the first game of it's kind.

Never before has their been a game with cartoon graphics, which are beautiful, that has had such a sinister plot. You wake up on a beach, with no memory of the night before, or any other night for that matter. All you know is you have a mysterious scar on your shoulder, all it says is "XIII". As you slowly regain your memory, and re-learn some of your skills from your army days, the plot thickens. The prime candidate for the Presidency of the United States has been shot dead by a sniper. AND YOU'RE SUSPECT NO. 1. You must punch, shoot, and explode anything in your way to get to the bottom of this mystery.

THE GOOD:
3 difficulty settings, multiplayer with xbox live and/or system link, great graphics and story.

SUMMARY:
its button controlls are like halo, i can even 'hump' people by pressing in on the left thum stick! some things i wish you could do with this game that you can on halo is melee/hit people with every gun (you can hit with the shotgun), and i kept tring to zoom in 2x with the pistol like i would with halo, ahhahaha

the developers put some good thought into the weapons. there are alot of pretty sweet weapons like 9mm, grenade, .44, shotgun, sniper crossbow, sniper rifel, assault rifel w/ grenade launcher, mini gun, kalash, and bazooka. the guns were designed with different strengths and accuracies that you can judge what is usefull where, not just stupidly having a different look of the bullets and thing you carry like in some other games.

I've been waiting for this one for a while and not so much for the cell-shading, but for the story...I loved the Bourne Identity and the whole kennedy Assasination conspiracy thing. When I first read the reviews, I was a little disappointed, but after playing the game, I have to disagree with the reviews. I liked the game, found it to be true to form and had quite a bit of originality. Now unless the game takes a sudden turn for the worst, I truly feel they did a remarkable job. Up to this point, I really found nothing wrong with the game. The game mixes shoot em up, and stealth action nicely, with a bit of adventure.
