"The Resident Evil series has had its ups and downs this generation, but Operation Raccoon City is a bizarre low for this iconic franchise. It just doesn’t feel like a Resident Evil game; the developers didn’t do much to make it feel that way. The controls are sensitive, touchy, and cumbersome. When picking up an item is more of an ordeal than taking out a colossal zombie creature, there’s definitely something wrong with the control setup. The mode count compliments the multiplayer focus, but distances the game from the Resident Evil vibe, which in Operation Raccoon City, is downright ignored. A bland presentation and obscure storyline don’t do much for Operation Raccoon City’s case either. Though there are moments of potential for a team-based shooter experience in the Resident Evil universe, Operation Raccoon City is a serious misstep for the franchise, thanks to fundamental control issues and a lack of Resident Evil essence. You wouldn’t be hurting anyone ignoring this flawed game."
"To say the Resident Evil series has undergone a few changes over the years is a bit of an understatement. When it made its debut on the PS One in 1996, Resident Evil was more about "jump scares" ..."
" Not long ago, our sister magazine OXM revealed Operation Raccoon City as a third-person shooter that takes place in the ravaged Raccoon City seen in RE2 and RE3. But instead of controlling a hapless RCPD officer caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, you’re part of a team of Umbrella specialists sent in to clean up the mess their company accidentally started. That means killing not just zombies, but also anyone who’s survived, including innocent bystanders and wayward cops – specifically one Leon Kennedy, who could escape and tell the world exactly what went down in Raccoon City... ..."
"Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City takes the canon in a whole new direction with a co-op squad shooter that takes place around the events of Resident Evil 2. Is it as awesome as a Chicago Typewriter, or is it about as much fun as huffing the G-Virus out of a canister?"
"The latest Resident Evil spin-off is headed to the world of co-op shooters. We see how it's coming along. "
