First this is my first Action/Shooter on the 360 and also the first time I have played Quake to the full extent. Last moment of seeing Quake was on Quake 2.
Firstly to start of with, the Allies that are on you team I like how the development group have pushed in making them seem more realistic in the fact of there actions within the game. Like sneaking around and tapping you on the shoulder, giving signs to each other. Basically evolving that into the game. It added a new side to the game and basically making it all more realistic. The story I found rather interesting. A simple battle again the enemy's but then what happens to you and changing (Keep it brief to not ruin it) you I though was basically a genius idea toward the game and when that happened I though amazing as I have never seen that idea into the main character changing. And watching it while it happens to a great extent I yet again though that was great... Funny all the reactions to you fellow squad when they see you. Funny.. Also the idea in having your allies close to you. As you have them through out the game to give you more of a feeling to the character as they may be you thought ect but if it was someone you dont know and they die you go blah but they kept them close and if they do die at least you dont go blah and there is more of a friendship in it so to speak. The range in weapons, and design for them in what they could do wasnt all basic weapons which I was expecting to see, but there were more developed weapons like the Dark Matter gun, A great weapon and great development to wards that weapon and many others. Also the idea of getting upgrades on certain weapons was another cool feature. The bosses that were in the game were not to hard basically as I was on easy first time round but still they was a good challenge for you and even I was low on health a few times against them so they still do alot to you. The actions in what they do I though was a bit boring as it was all repetitive in most ways but then all bosses are I guess. They never shock you =[... The levels and the design. I didnt like the idea of having to go to some of the old levels and basically revisiting them. I liked it when going to a new place and new environment and this game offered that to you but I wish there was more but the range in what it offered was good. Many times in the game I have o be honest this game had me a little worried in adding the suspense of what could happen next.. Quite shocking for a game to do that I believe...
What I sore to be not an amazing feature of the game was mainly on the side of the Ending of the game. Every game has to end great but I dont know about this one and the past Quake games. This one basically once you have completed it like less then 1 minuet ending basically killing the fun of me doing the game as it was like yes but then.. That ending sucked.. so to speak... The final boss.. Hmm.. Easy as, I did state I was on easy didnt I.. There was some challenge to figuring out how to kill the FINAL boss but easy once done. A good let down... The saving in game play is always there but in this if you are just in a battle vase and it auto-matically saves it just nudges your screen a little and slows down a battle scene which I did not really like to much to be honest.. As it basically pissed me of when this happened.
I cant think of much more to say. Overal this game is good and a great first development of game for the 360. I am still playing it now to cover the higher levels.. Which is still fun to do.. I dont know to much about this game online but im sure that is good.. In the end this if you like the past games and games like it, it is one your should get =] |

THE GOOD: Graphics AI (both the enemies and your fellow Marines) LOOOOONG single-player campaign Voice actingTHE BAD: Some frame rate issues Outdoor environments could have been a little more detailed SUMMARY: Well, the next-gen wars have begun. Microsoft has fired the first salvo and lets just say that it is a direct hit. There are some BEAUTIFUL launch titles for the 360, but Quake IV is certainly one of the flashiest. For the first time EVER, gamers can play a game that was meant for a high end PC on a console. Its absolutely GORGEOUS. The lighting, particle effects and character models are all spot on. ID has done an excellent job of taking the Doom III engine, giving it a spit shine and using it to submerge us in the Strogg universe.
This is a gory, disturbing game. In one of the more memorable sequences, you actually watch as you are "Stroggified"; you gaze helplessly as your legs are severed using a rusty saw blade. Most unsettling. Yes, there are some frame rate issues, but they are few and far between. Not only does it look great, but the single-player campaign is LOOOONG.
If you are a graphics whore like me, pick this one up. If you loved Doom III, you will certainly love Quake IV. While it doesn't really break any new ground, it certainly makes the ground that it covers FANTASTIC to look at. |
