The Wii is a revolution of a console. When I first got my Wii, about a year after release, I was amazed at what it could all do. Backwards Compatibility is neat, you can play all of your Gamecube games it. You simply plug the controllers into the top, and the memory cards go right behind them. Plus, you can play a lot of your favorite older games, for consoles like the Nintendo 64, NES, etc. I played around with it when I first got it, I explored all the channels, connected to the internet, made Miis, etc. I cannot describe the feeling of when I first got it. I went nuts. Anyways, it is easy to setup, with clear instructions with pictures. You get these things with the Console:
The Console
Console Stand
Wii Remote
Wii Remote Jacket
Nunchuk
Sensor Bar
Wii AV Cable
Wii Sports Game
Wii AC Adapter
Channels The Wii has Channels. The channels are different programs that are built into your Wii. The Channels that you start off with are:
Disc Channel-This is the channel that you play games on.
Mii Channel -Allows you to make little people called "Miis" That you use in some games
Picture Channel -Allows you to look at pictures on your Wii
Wii Shop Channel -You can buy older games from this channel, and Wii Software too
Weather Channel -Shows you the weather of your area, and the entire world.
News Channel -Shows the news around the world
You can also buy other channels from the Wii Shop channel. When you buy a new Channel from the WiiWare section, a new channel will show up on the main menu of the Wii Console, the one that starts up when you turn on the console. You can buy older game as well, from the Virtual Console. The consoles of which game are on are the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and the Neo-Geo. When you buy a game, it too gets added as a channel. You don't save it to a disc or anything, so you couldn't take it to a friends house to play without bringing your whole console.
Controllers The Wii controllers are new. I don't think that there has ever been a console that use controllers like this. They are white remotes, with an attachment for a Nunchuck. If you want to see how it attaches, then look here It is fun playing with the controllers. In Super Mario Galaxy, to attack you shake the Wii remote. To shoot starbits, you point at an area on the screen and press B, the trigger button. It is tricky at first, and takes a bit of getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's awesome. It feels natural, like holding a controller for a Gamecube or a 360. You can do so much with it. There is another controller called the "Classic Controller". It is used for older games that you buy in the Wii Shop Channel, but you can always use the Gamecube controllers for those games too.
Graphics The graphics don't compare to the XBOX 360 graphics, or Playstation 3 graphics, but they are better then the Gamecube graphics. Unfortunately, when making the Wii Nintendo didn't make awesome graphics like the Ps3 or 360, because (I think) that it is for more casual gamers, not really for Hardcore gamers. Don't get me wrong, the Wii can be very fun, but there aren't many games like you'd see on the 360 or Ps3.
Memory The memory is an issue on the Wii. It doesn't use Memory Cards (except for the Gamecube games) , and doesn't have a lot of space inside it. You can buy SD cards if you run out of room. If you have to use an SD card, then you are transferring data to and from the Wii when you want to play a game.
All in all, I think that the Wii is a wonderful console, good for all ages. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't have one, and it has a pretty good library of games. You wont be disappointed, you definitely get your money's worth from it.
