THE GOOD:
- Gameplay
- Attacks
- Story
- Graphics
- Multiplayer
- Stages

THE BAD:
- Controls
- Difficulty

SUMMARY:
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, from a series of 3 so far. The second game is very much similar to the first and third in terms of regular play, only a few extra characters, stages and little extras.

It features Dragon Adventure, which is the story mode. Ultimate Battle Z, where you start at the end of the list of characters and fight your way to the top. Dragon Tournament, where you battle your way to becoming champion. Duelling, which is where you battle against your friends or computer AI. There's also a feature called Ultimate Training, where you can practice your moves against a customizable computer opponent.

Gameplay:

The gameplay is fantastic. It's very fun and uses the Wii controls well. There are tournaments you can compete in, which grow higher in difficulty, and if you win you're awarded with zen to buy different abilities which you can attach to your character to give them more strength.

What gives this game a lot of credit is the multiplayer. When you've done the tournaments and story mode there really isn't anything more fun to do than play your friends.

The gameplay and fmv graphics are very similar, as it's all cartoons. They're pleasing to the eye, since it's almost just like watching the anime, but playing it.

The gameplay itself is very fluent and I've experienced no bugs where a character is stuck in the stage or anything like that. Even for a fast paced game like Dragonball Z, the gameplay still holds up and remains amazing to sit back and watch.

The tournaments are possibly one of the most fun options in the game, from my perspective. They're very repetitive as they're very similar, just harder difficulties. However, on the tournament itself, you can KO opponents not only by depleting the whole life bar, but by smashing them out of the arena, and if they touch the floor it's your win. This can be very annoying on harder difficulties or if you have lack of control for your character, as you'll be the one on the floor. As for the life bars, after customizing your characters you can have more than one life bar, allowing you to survive a lot longer than before.

Attacks:

In this game, there are so many attacks you will recognise from the anime, if you're a big fan. Much like the anime, some of the characters position their hands to perform certain attacks, and if you're using the Wii Remote + Nunchuk, you can position them in the same way to perform the attack on the game, which pleases fans to no end.

Stages:

The stages are an awesome part of the game. Each of them being huge in distance, with mountains, trees and spectacular looking graphics. One of the best parts is being able to knock or throw your opponent through objects. Say, there's a huge mountain, you can knock your opponent straight through it, causing it to crumble, leaving your opponent with a lot less health and lying in the wreck. Another cool thing is that when a certain character performs a devasting attack, like Goku's Spirit Bomb for example, you can blow up the planet, leaving lava spurting and the whole planet in ruins.

Story:

The story follows the story of the anime, but shortened, including all of the sagas, including some of the movies too. If you've watched the series, then it's nice to play through what you've watched on tv, as the Z fighters.

Controls:

For anyone new to the Wii and it's controls, this game could be difficult. Some of them are hard to pull off, unless you do it completely correct. However, the use of a Classic Controller and Gamecube Controller is allowed, which makes things a lot more simple.

Difficulty:

Well, for new players, it will be a struggle. Even on Easy mode (which can be found in options) some of the battles are stupidly hard.

Overall:

Overall, I think this game is worth the buy. However, I would rather recommend the third one, as you'll have a few extras, but it will be worth it. This game is good, but it's hard and awkward in so many places, which new players don't like or want.

THE GOOD:
.Voice Actors From The Show
.Multiplayer
.Leveling System
.Good story
.Decent graphics

THE BAD:
.Annoying controls
.Frustratingly hard

SUMMARY:
Ah...The Dragon Ball Z series. One of the most popular animes in all of the world. All those episodes, all the video games, the comics, the parody's.

Hmm...But this game? It's not so good. I mean, it's okay, but not the best game on the Wii.

So, allow me to explain a little more.

Graphics

The graphics are okay...They're cel shaded, if I'm not mistaken. I enjoy this style of graphics though, so I find this as a plus. The levels are nicely done, characters look fine. Those are the in-game graphics, but the game graphics when you're not actually playing(such as when you're at a menu) look like the drawings from the show, 2D. Doesn't really look bad.

Overall: Not bad, not bad at all.

Story

You play through different sagas of the show, such as The Android Saga, Cell Saga, etc. You'll also play levels and such from the movies. The stories aren't bad, they're actually very good.

Overall: Great!

Controls

Eep. This is where it gets bad. The controls get a wee bit confusing and may mess you up.

You move with the analog stick on the nunchuck, punch / kick with the A button, press / hold the B button to shoot energy balls, C to fly up and down, the D-pad to block, + to select the menu, Z is to charge your power..

You're probably a little confused, huh? Well it may not sound too confusing, but it is. I really get screwed up with these controls, I'm always pressing the wrong button at the wrong time. However, if I'm not mistaken, you can use the virtual console controller instead of the Wiimote, which may make it easier. Seeing as I don't have a virtual console controller, I can't say.

You'll also have to combine a few controls to do certain moves, example:

While holding Z, hold B and move your cursor out to the left side of the screen, then bring it back in.

^ That'll execute an attack. Yep, that's real easy.

However, there are some harder ones...Example.

While holding Z, hold B and shake the nunchuck twice and quickly move the Wiimote forward.

It's harder then it sounds.

You also shake the nunchuck a little to dash towards your opponent, which is easy to remember.

Overall: Could of been better.

Gameplay

How should I start this off?

Let's talk about the world map first of all. You take control of a character and make them fly around different parts of the world, and you can either fly towards the next main mission or simple side missions / events / shops.

Side missions are usually simple things such as "Kill the Cell Jrs.!". All you do is kill a bunch of them, and get money or an item. There are also events, like finding a character standing in the middle of nowhere, and if you do find him or her, they'll help you in your next fight if you fall. Then there's shops.... Where you can go to buy Capsules / Skills for your customised characters. We'll talk about that later.

Now, about fighting. You're in a level, not that big, not that small. A decent size. Your goal is USUALLY to kill the enemy, by depleting their health bars, but sometimes it'll be something like "Stay alive for 60 seconds!!!!". You have health bars, energy bars, and a little radar in the bottom right of the screen. There's also another thing you can toggle on in the bottom right of the screen but God only knows what it's for. It's just a green square or something white light green lines. I'll try and figure that out later. Anyways, you can deplete the enemy's health by beating them up, knocking them into buildings or other objects, throwing them, executing special attacks, combos, or throwing energy attacks at them. Your energy goes down a little every time you use an energy attack, but you can charge it back up. You can also enter MAX mode, which means you can execute your characters best attack, which usually does a lot of damage. In some situations, you'll have a partner or two to help you out. If you die, you get to be the partner you have, who will start out with full health, which can make the fights a little easier.

Some fights can be ridiculously hard, and will probably make you want to cry after a while. You'll have trouble with some characters, and not with some. The worst part about dieing is you have to see the "Fail!" screen, listen to those annoying trumpets, start the event again, watch the cut-scene again(Unless you skip it), select your character again, and then try again.

Now about character customization, it's almost exactly like some of the other DBZ games. You choose a character you wish to customize, you give them skill capsules you've bought / unlocked, and they level up every few skill capsules you give them. The leveling system is just to show how good your character is, I guess. You can enter a tournament mode with your custom character for some extra cash as well if you want, it's simple. You just fight your way up to the top of the matches.

To unlock characters, you'll have to either get them from story mode, or mix items up to get them. You'll probably want to look at a guide for this.

Overall: Okay...

Multiplayer

Pretty fun actually. Being able to own your friends = win.

Overall: Sweet!

CONCLUSION

This isn't one of the best games out there for the Wii, but if you're a DBZ fan, get it defintly. If you're not, this is one of those games you'll want to rent first.
