THE GOOD: Excelent interface. Easy to develop stratagy. Fun Party game with high replay value.THE BAD: Awards system poorly programed, often gives conflicting awards to the same player, or the same award twice to different people. (I was stretching for something...this is really a great game) SUMMARY: This is what a game should be. Any game. I cannot believe we picked this thing up for $15 at Wallmart. This is quite frankly the best game I have played in a long time. Graphically it's nothing special, but it's not meant to be. The music is decent, but again it's not the focus. The sound effects are just super cool, especially the little worm voices, which is nice, but again not the focus. This game really shines in it's control and interface though. It's completely and totally simplistic, and that's the beauty. You have a team of worms and you move them around the screen. You point them at someone else's team of worms and shoot them with big weapons. They shoot back and it continues until only one team remains. But that's just for the inexperienced, when you really understand what you're doing you can start using intricate strategies to undermine your opponents and usurp victory from their grasp. And here's the thing that is really cool, even if you're just a novice, you can still wail on skilled opponents. In the end they may win every single time, but it's not going to be an overwhelming victory, you'll feel like you had a chance the whole time. Heck, even if you do get completely stomped, the game is just fun. Everyone will enjoy themselves no matter their final ranking. It's a four player game, played with "pass the controller" turn based action. It's obviously designed for the random multi-player game. It's got the option right on the main menu, but it doesn't end there. You can design your own custom team of worms and run them through all sorts of tests and missions and other fun things. There are hours and hours of game play. The replay of the one player game probably isn't that high, but it would talk you forever to get through it all. The real replay comes in the multi-player game. Plus there are all sorts of combat options to fiddle with. You can alter the voices of your worms, which is just fun. There are something like 50 different voice libraries including things like Angry Scots, Aussie, German, and Sports Talk. The only thing that is disappointing is that you can't assign separate voice libraries to each team. You can also run more focused multi-player games where you can use your single-player team against other player's teams. In these matches you can design your own terrain to fight on (randomly generated but you get to modify the terrain look and various options) and there are tons of modifications on the standard fight scenario. Modification on the number of weapons available is the primary thing modified, but there may be some other things modified throughout. This is a great game and you should check it out. |
