The Force strong with this game is... | 4.7 0 comments |

THE GOOD: A variety of weapons Varied challenges Many secrets Superb CharactersTHE BAD: Sometimes slightly too difficult SUMMARY: As the Yoda-style title states, the Force is indeed strong with this game.
The game is based on and around the events of the film, and includes many of its Characters, including the bright and friendly (for now, at least...) Anakin Skywalker and the shady business-alien Watto.
The assortment of weapons makes this game even better, and adds strategic depth to the game. The player plays through eleven Stages, playingas a total of four Characters - the young Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, his master Qui-Gon Jinn, the aggressive Naboo Royal Guard Captain Panaka and the young Queen of Theed, Amidala.
I recommend this game to anyone who likes a challenge. |

THE GOOD: Fight using four great characters, all the films locations, excellent level design, wonderful weapons, use of the Force and Darth Maul!THE BAD: Lack of a two-player mode. SUMMARY: "Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace" is an amazing game in every department. Playing as either Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Captain Panaka or Queen Amidala, your mission objectives range from assault to stealth, to exploration to protection and from dealing in Podracer parts to defence.
As one of the Jedi Knights, your primary weapon is your lightsaber, which you never loose and can use whenever you want. This is great: you often find yourself using the lightsaber when you have a heavier weapon at your disposal, because with it, you can attack and deflect with ease. You also have a Force power: Push, which can stun and (in some cases) kill a whole group of enemies in one swift tap of a button.
When you are in control of a non-Jedi, you have numerous weapons at your disposal, from Droid Stunners to Proton Missile Launchers. True, you can't run with the Proton Missile Launcher, but this adds realism: you try running with a rocket launcher sometime!
The level design is excellent, with huge, open areas which don't stray too far from the film's storyline, yet still allow in-depth exploration. With objectives like bartering for a certain Podracer part or chasing a thief, you are never bored with the same old "kill droid... kill droid... kill droid" routene found in some games.
The true test, however, is the 'Final Battle' level: switching between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Queen Amidala, your task is to put an end to the Nubian conflict by either 1: Capturing the Viceroy or 2: Defeating the evil Darth Maul. This is the real test, combining all the skills you have learnt throughout the game to create one huge level. By the end, you are completely exhausted, too!
The only bad thing is the lack of a multi-player mode. Lightsaber duels between Jedi and shoot-outs between soldiers would have made this game perfect, but we are only left with the solo mode of play. However, the solo mode is so great that you soon forget about the missing deathmatches.
All in all, this game is the most amazing experiance, with furious shoot-outs, massive levels and lightsaber duels with tattooed Sith Lords. If you have seen the film, read the book or are simply a huge "Star Wars" fan, then this game is essential. If not, get the game anyway... you won't regret it.
Finally, a Jedi Mind Trick: "You will buy this game..."

THE GOOD: Deflect shots with lightsaber. Decent guns.THE BAD: Only one force power which in many cases, is useless. SUMMARY: This game definetly could have been better. The force powers are really only useful in Theed when you have to activate switches from a distance. When you use the only powerful gun in the game, the rocket launcher thing, you can't run, and when you use the lightsaber, you can deflect enemy shots, but you can't do that much damage. Plus, the enemies are stupid, and the queen dies too easily when you have to escort her(she dies on me when I go off after clearing the area. |
