INTRO

Oddworld: Abe's Exodus is the sequel to Abe's Odyssee and once again challenges you to save your fellow Mudokons from the latest threat to their well being. Due to a shortage of other creatures the Glukkons now want to turn all of the Mudokons into a new type of soda so you must act quickly to prevent your peoples extinction. You once again are a funny looking little green guy who has to solve puzzles, outrun multiple different guards and simultaneously speak to your people so that they follow you to freedom.

GAMEPLAY 8/10

The controls in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee are relatively simple to get used to and include all of the same actions as its predecessor with the major step forward being a whole new set of dialogue commands in addition to what you were accustomed to. These commands can be a little tricky to learn but after a while you should be communicating like a well scholared Mudokon. Another advancement this time around is the ability to possess the bad guys and subsequently control their movements, actions and yes, dialogue as well. The puzzles this time around are much more challenging and add to that the fact that the Mudokons you must save have different moods as well, makes Oddworld: Abe's Exodus a real challenge indeed The gameplay consists of you navigating Abe through multiple levels filled with traps, enemies, objectives and puzzles that need to be solved in order for you to be able to advance. Throughout each level you will find numerous Mudokons that you need to rescue in order to complete the game. Also depending on how many Mudokons you save your will get a different ending. There are 300 Mudokons in total and saving them all is a most challenging quest indeed.

GRAPHICS 9/10

The graphics are very nicely done and as with the first game much attention has been paid to the details in the backgrounds. The levels are all lush with colors and give a very mystical and often magical looking appearance. The characters are very nicely designed and also have different moods and emotional changes which makes the entire picture even more detailed.

CAMERA 8/10

The camera is stationary from a fixed 2D perspective but feels comfortable since the entire game is set in 2D anyway. Depending on your position on the screen you might find yourself in the foreground or in the background which adds depth to the overall experience and toys with optical illusion a little.

SFX and FMV's 10/10

The SFX are very cool in the sense that the developers paid attention to the most minute details including footsteps, creature sounds and most notably in your ability to control your characters dialogue in order to communicate with your fellow slave Mudokons as well as your enemies via possessed baddies. In total there must be somewhere like 30 different voice commands which will entertain and amuse you for many hours. The FMV's are also incredibly well thought out and executed. The animation sequences are beautifully rendered and the graphics are lush in every aspect. This category is perfect.

REPLAY VALUE 5/10

The replay value is not that high due to the fact that once you've beaten this very challenging and time consuming game it is likely that you do not want to go through the entire journey again. The only thing that might prompt you to go at it again would be to see the final FMV that only gets triggered if you save all 300 Mudokons.

OVERALL 8/10

Overall I would say that Oddworld: Abe's Exodus gets a 8 because it is a very challenging and yet rewarding experience. However it is still pretty much the same thing as the first game so if you've played part one then you kind of played this one already. (With certain exceptions of course) If you are a true Oddworld fan then you should buy the game as it is in no way a letdown but otherwise I would recommend that you rent it or buy it as cheap as possible. Good luck and go save the Mudokons.

PROS:
Fun Game
Original Idea
Funny at times

CONS:
Quite confusing at times
Controls difficult to learn
Choppy graphics

Graphics: 5/10
I have seen better graphics on some Super Nintendo games, but like I have always said, graphics can neither help a game from complete destruction or destroy it from greatness,
but it can help it on its way there. The graphics are good, but they just don’t seem to have that razzle dazzle effect on me for some reason.

Audio: 10/10
One of the few things that has been done right in this game. Although a near carbon copy of the original, it still is one of the best out there. I mean have you ever heard a game with a better likeness of a human fart? They must spent hundreds of dollars at Taco Bell to get the art of farting to perfection. Great game when it comes to audio, every body loves it from your grandma to that two year old cousin.

Controls: 5/10
The controls are kind of mediocre if you want my opinion, much like the first game, it seems as though the controls would be a hit or miss. Either a revolutionary game or one of the kind that you would rather forget about. Unfortunately it is one of those that you should forget about. Not much to brag about, it just leaves too much to be desired.

Gameplay: 5/10
The gameplay is not too great. Not to take anything from this game, it is a fun game, it just seems as though it can hold my attention like a rock in a store with bikini-clad
women jumping up and down underneath a waterfall, the rock just will not be looked at a great deal of time. Much like the controls, it is decent just it isn’t high quality.

Replayability: 4/10
Replayability means you want to play it over and over again, and it just does not seem to have that effect on me. Once I finished I kinda felt like going back to my good old Final Fantasy VII.

Cheats: 4/10
There were not too many cheats in this game, and unlike graphics, I think that a good set of cheats can save a horrible game, but this just has too big of a hole to dig itself out of.

Overall: 5/10
It seems as though the only thing saving this game is the fact that it made me laugh, and lets not forget about the sound effects. Hopefully in the next game in the series they can change a few things to make that game a high quality game, I am sure hoping they do.
