Grand Theft Auto (PSX Original) | 2.9 0 comments |

THE GOOD: The game is original and fun to play. The creators really took a risk making this game, forfeiting many reegular game features so that they could add the revolutionising features of their own. THE BAD: The game is extremely difficult, maybe too difficult in the later levels. This is contributed by the lack of saving opurtunities. SUMMARY: I loved this game! Free roaming and action-packed, filled with tonnes of surprises around every corner, laced with an amazingly OTT gangster storyline and colourful graphics; what more could you ask for? Remember, this was the first game, to my knowledge, of its type. The features were incredible as well, one minute your car jacking some dude who hasn't paid for their daily dose of Class C drugs and the next, your on your way to kidnap the President's second cousin whilst armed with a rocket launcher or something crazy like that. I think the storyline could have been made more substantial than it was, however. Also, the graphics wasn't particularly great; they were unique and worked, though! The only real problem I had with the game is the fact that you had to get something like 20,000,000 points to complete a level and there was no saving during this. So you had to literally leave your PSX on for ridiculous times in order to complete levels. With an updated saving function, a little tweaking of the graphics, I truly believe this game would be a best-seller once again! Especially if they made a few minor changes to the story as well, hell it would be a chart-topper if they did that! |

Brilliantly violent! | 4.0 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Amazing amounts of freedom in the game Brilliantly violent One mission copied directly from the film ‘Speed’ Trading cars for moneyTHE BAD: Graphically not the best, even when it was released SUMMARY: This game is pretty basic by today’s standards but it was pretty addictive and spawned one of the best and most controversial game series to date. In this game you controlled a character and basically had to get to a total of money to advance to the next level. The fastest way to do it was to complete certain missions for which you would get a pay off. The missions could be anything from moving a vehicle somewhere to blowing up a lot of stuff. This game was released for the Playstation and the PC.
The view in this game is always top down, such as the processing power that was available when this game was released. Pretty much the first thing I did was to car-jack someone and drive off. Grand Theft Auto is the name of an offence in the US anyway, but pretty much everything you do in this game is illegal. You can run down pedestrians, shoot at random cars, push cars into rivers and many other things. Of course you can’t always get away with it and after enough law breaking the cops will start to chase you. The cop cars are one of the fastest in the game and can always keep up with your car. There is a talking police head at the top of your screen and the number indicated your wanted level. As you commit more crimes your wanted level goes up and the number of heads increases up to a maximum of 4. At this point you will have cops swarming all over you in an effort to kill you. If you are driving along and a cop gets near your door he can drag you out and you will be arrested. You’ll be taken to a cop station and lose all your weapons and fail any mission you were doing. The police can set up roadblocks to try and stop you as well.
But there is a way to avoid this. If you can find a Pay ‘n Spray shop you can drive your car into it. Then you will get a paint job and new license plates. When you drive out you will lose all your wanted level and the cops will be off your tail. This even happens if they see you drive in there in the first place. Knowing the locations of all Pay ‘n Spray shops can save you on many occasions. Another shop you can go into is a bomb shop. This will rig your vehicle with a bomb, which can be detonated by pressing a certain button. You then need to get out the vehicle and run away as the bomb explodes pretty quickly. I never really used that much in this game to be honest.
There are 4 weapons you can use in this game: a pistol, machine gun, rocket launcher and flamethrower. The machine gun is probably the most handy. The pistol has a much slower rate of fire, with the rocket launcher you risk blowing yourself up if you are too close and the flamethrower is hard to use on cars as you can get caught in the explosion. But every weapon has its advantages, the rocket launcher makes quick work of crowds and vehicles whereas just one touch from the flamethrower is enough to kill anyone. You can pick up armour in the game as well, which allows you to take three pistol or machine gun bullets. There is also a tank to find on some levels. Running over vehicles will destroy them and you can fire a rocket from the turret. The tank can take an extreme amount of punishment and if you feel it’s about to be destroyed you can take it to a Pay ‘n Spray.
One feature of this game is that you can take vehicles to a crane and get them taken over the river. You will get a cash reward depending on how good the car is, usually governed by how fast it is. The Cossie seems to fetch the most. I loved this feature although you couldn’t use it too often in a row. Another thing worth a mention is that one of the missions you have to do in the game is taken directly from the film ‘Speed’ and you’ll know it when you do it.
Of course this game is very crude compared to the later versions in the series and last time I played it all I could see was how bad the graphics were. I’d only recommend this game if you wanted to see where all the whole series started off. The names of the three cities are important and crop up in later games, but I won’t say why for those who don’t know. If you’re a fan of top down games, then GTA II is definitely a much better game to try. |

You can go where you want, kill who you want and blow up what you want. This game has all the classic car chases, the main aim of the game is to complete missions so that your gang can take over the place befor the other gangs. you can complete your missions using any means nessecary, even stealing emergancy services vechiles and going on the run. I don't like the birds eye veiw very much but it has such good game play who am I to complain, this game rocks.

THE GOOD: This has got to be the best ever game made for the Playstation, Grand Theft Auto, one of the greatest games known to man.THE BAD: Sure, the graphics arn't all that good, but it is one of the few games where you have absolute freedom, to wonder around, see the sights and ofcourse go on a killing spree. SUMMARY: Grand Theft Auto is made up of three citys, you start of in Liberty City in the east of the US , working for the local King Pin, Bald Man Sonetti , then you get moved to San Andreass in the west of the US, doing dirty deeds for the strange El Burro, then it's time to head of to Miami, Florida, where you will be based to work in Vice City in the south, east of the US, there you will do missions for the Rastas, a smooth talking Jamakin gang.
This has to be the best game on Playstation, and is a must have for all you crimanals out there, that's why iv'e got it. |

THE GOOD: EVERYTHING!! Ability to roam around free Excellent Missions Cheat Codes excellent weapons
THE BAD: the graphics kind of sucked-don't like bird's eye view much. SUMMARY: Although the graphics aren't the best the game still turned out to be the best! What I liked about this game is that it gave you the oppurtunity to roam around causing ciaos(first game to do that) and at the same time you could do over 100 excellent missions to keep you busy for a long time. I also liked how there was cussing in it..everytime i heard a cuss word it made me laugh because you just don't get that kind of stuff out of a game. Even though the game is getting old i would still recommend buying it;) even if it does have bad graphics:-D
i would give this game two thumbs up wayyy up! |

Must Steal A Copy Now! | 2.9 0 comments |

THE GOOD: Grand Theft Auto at its bestTHE BAD: Graphics SUMMARY: The very first Grand Theft Auto game which spawned an entire series. Graphics are pretty bad, but the game was made in 1997 so you have to be a little fair. This is like the other GTA games, steal, kill work for money. Anything to improve your rep in the city.
There are 3 cities, and 2 "acts" to each city. They are Liberty City (GTA 3) Vice City (GTA: Vice City) and San Andreas (Next GTA) each one offering different vehicles and missions, along with new surroundings.
Classic game, available for download now, absolutley free from Rockstars website. You must get it. |

THE GOOD: the good thing about this game is the freedom to roam around, collect weapons, steal cars, and kill people and do just about everything you would want to do in real life but wont because you will go to jail or be executedTHE BAD: the only bad thing about this game is the crappy over head view, it is very hard to react to something when your driving, cause there isnt much room on the screen to show when something gets in your way SUMMARY: there are many jobs to be completed for certain bosses, and there is a storyline which is linked in with almost all the missions, most of the jobs you will get are through telephones, but in some cases there are cars sitting around and when you get in them it will trigger a mission. There are also many rampages, or kill frenzies around in this game, kill frenzies are icons with skulls on them, and you can pick them up and you have to kill a certain amount of people in a certain amount of time for a cash reward. There are cops that will chase you if you do too many things wrong in this game, but there are also a few spray shops around where you can change the color of your car to get the cops off of you, the rest is up to you to discover, enjoy this game even though it might not be as entertaining as the other gta titles, i had fun with it, later |

The game that began it all | 4.3 0 comments |

I doubt when rock star games first released this game they expected it to sell so well. I also doubt they expected to be making games such as gta3 and gta vice city both of which must have made them millions.
Anyway back to the game at hand. This looks very dated now but it is still as addictive and enjoyable as ever.
This was and still remains one of the most original game concepts ever. You can go around on crime sprees kill random passer byes and generally do things that in real life would land you in the chair or in prison for life.
I remember when I first got this game, me and my cousin spent hours just going around causing as much carnage as possible.
This is a game you can probably pick up very cheaply now and if you can find it anywhere I reccomend you buy it. |

Random Rampage in the City | 4.5 0 comments |
by KngAlaric from Outpost 31, Antarctica, | Sep 4, 2002 |
THE GOOD: A highly original game! Finally, someone makes a game we want to see! The comedy of the cartoonish brutality involved The variety of missions. Very difficult and entertaining You will crack up!THE BAD: sucky controls top scrolling difficulty of some of the missions when the mission is finished, even if you fail it - it's gone for good not enough weapons just lying around SUMMARY: First - let me say - this is the game that started it all. I remember when it came out, my friends and I spent hours, just roaming the environments creating havok. We would laugh and laugh, even though it looked somewhat primitive for the PS, almost as if it would have fit on the old NES.
It was and is still a lot of fun. the missions are very challenging, and you have to get used to the driving, because the timed ones can be extremely aggravating, especially when your liitle cousin loses your map permanently.
You can shoot guns, machine guns, bazookas, flamethrowers, etc., carjack, drive a tank, and do all sorts of crazy stuff, like run over a bunch of Hare Krishnas and get something called " "
The soundtrack is hilarious, but gets old quickly, but it is very funny.
If you have never played this game and you love GTA3 - you should check it out for a laugh and some time well spent on a video game. Everything is here - rampages, etc. and the missions are tougher and more sinister (is that possible?) I know I wasted a good chunck of time several years ago on it, but I never finished it. The last city is very hard to drive in and complete missions.
