THE GOOD:
The graphics aren't all that bad. They're basically on par with the in-battle graphics for Final Fantasy VII, with more animation.

THE BAD:
This bracket isn't big enough to describe everything that's bad about Ehrgeiz.

SUMMARY:
An ancient kind of Materia has been rediscovered... Ehrgeiz! Pick a character and fight your way through this game to win this Materia.

When I first heard of this game, I was pretty excited about it. Namco, creators of the Tekken and Soul-series, joining hands with Squaresoft, who gave us the Final Fantasy-series... in order to make a fighting-game featuring characters from FFVII. A dream come true, right?

Wrong. Somewhere along the lines, something just went crooked. We were told not to expect "Tekken with FFVII-characters", and indeed, we got something infinitely inferior to that concept. If it HAD been Tekken Meets FFVII, I wouldn't be here warning you about just how monumentally bad...

THE GOOD:
Fun fighting, good selection of characters, and a optional RPG mode.

THE BAD:
Story in the free roaming was bad, so many more better fighting games, and the gameplay lacked.

SUMMARY:
Well I first got this game because I saw it was Final Fantasy related. After playing for a while I figured ot was OK but nothing to get overly excited over. I didn't really like the RPG part of it because it was more of a action/RPG style. I did enjoy using some of my favorite Final Fantasy characters in it however. I recommend renting this game due to it's low replay value.

While flipping through the pages of an old video game magazine that I stumbled across while cleaning my room, I came to a full page advertisment that would change my life. On this page there was a picture of Cloud Striffe, the hero of a game that I have spent over a month of my life playing (I have actually done the math), Final Fantasy VII. There were also the words "He's Back..." in italics at the bottom of the page, and "Ehrgeiz, God Bless the Ring" at the top of the page. Stunned, I sat there in awe just immaginning what force of nature could have done this, and wondering how quickly I could get this game and finally prove that Cloud is the greatest fighter in the history of video games. So, I quickly through all of the crap under my bed and went to the store and bought this game.

When I first turned it on, I was expecting a regular fighting game, but what I had gotten was so very much more. There is a Quest Mode that can hold its own with any adventure game out...

The first fighting game released by Square is jam packed with tons of characters (only one, Godhand is playable in the demo) including all of your favorites from Final Fantasy VII. As a person who really does not like fighting games I was quite skeptical of this game, but since I could play with Cloud in the final version, I gave this game a chance, and I am glad I did. The graphics are beautiful, the animations, smooth. The sound could have used some help, there was not too much of anything. The controls were something to be desired. Flawless, simply flawless. Although it is only a demo, it will provide a couple of hours of playing time. Overall, a really great demo
