One can beat this game only with reckless driving | 5.0 0 comments |
by Another_ID from , , | Mar 24, 2005 |
THE GOOD: New, much improved graphics engine which keeps the same solid framerate as in the prequel. Various missions and good story telling which immerses you into the role of go-between Tanner. Artificial oponents which really will kick your butt in some missions until you uplevel your driving skills. "Driver" is already a trademark, and it won't disappoint you - if you liked the first game, be ready to fall in love with "Driver 2".THE BAD: Sometimes there happen slowdowns, you should look at them as if they were "matrix time" and it won't disturb you that much. You should be able to leave the game for a nap in the night if you have tried about one hundred times to beat the same mission, else you might burn out. SUMMARY: Its games like Driver and Driver 2 which are pushing the Playstation to its limits. A few minutes playtime, and you have already forgotten that you were playing on the goold old pixel station, since the gameplay rewards you with enough fun to let yourself get immersed in the cruisable towns quickly.
If you are out for a real challenge, where it is granted that you won't succeed with only ten or twenty tries but it is still doable, you will get your fair share again. A warm up phase is granted: chasing the elevated railway didn't break your controller in the first game, and it won't bring you down to your knees in Driver 2, either; getting to the Havanna fairy boat in time requires only to knock out a police car or two, and drive always at maximum speed, but it is no hassle at all. But if you think saving Mr. President in Driver 1 was at the very limit of what a driver can do, you must re-define your limits one more time when you go for Jones attacker. Its such a challenge, that when you search the web for "save jones" it will sing gossip and rhymes of how hard and yet how good it is. Knowing that you can do it, if you only drive good enough, if you drive better than the ghost-artificial-intelligence-blend right before you, transports the real gaming spirit which steals you half a night from your life and leaves you falling exhausted on your bed, still wearing the boots and without the teeth brushed, only to febrile during the next day until you can return to your dual shock joystick and take on the hunting again. |

How can you not love this game? | 5.0 0 comments |

I have had Driver 2 for several years now and I still play it all the time. Why, do you ask? BECAUSE IT ROCKS THE WORLD OF GAMING!!!! Contrary to other reviews, this game is actually really good, if you are willing to put up with some minor flaws....
Story 9/10 Caine, a US gangster who's money man, Pink Lenny, just ran out on him is mad. Why? Because Pink Lenny went and joined forces with his arch rival, Vasquez. But does Vasquez really exist? What is it Lenny knows? Who is the wheelman? Wait a minute....we already know the answer to that question....YOU are the wheelman. Tanner is your name and your trusty side-kick Jones is there to help you, too. Hang on to your seats, ladies and gentlemen. This is going to be one rough ride.
Controls 9/10
Exactly the same as the original Driver and for those of you that have that game, you know the controls are good. Except now, you can get out of your car and do some major car-jacking. Doesn't seem like a big deal now, but back in 2000, it was a breakthrough. Sure GTA had already done it, but they were still in top down view back then and Driver 2 offered a 3D environment. HA! Take that Rockstar.
Music 8/10
Some alright music throughout this game. It even changes when you are getting chased by a cop. Wowsa. And sometimes there is music from passing cars. I don't know if that's how Reflections had planned it, but that's how it happened. Each city has a different song for when you are just driving around or when you are getting chased. Good stuff.
Undercover mode 10/10
This game has some pretty cool missions. Not that I can reveal any, but a lot of them are very cool. Some are extremely difficult and will have you wishing you hadn't spent your 20 bucks on it, but trudge on soldier and reap the great rewards at the end.
Difficulty 10/10
This game has some extremely hard missions as well as some easy ones, but the hard outweigh the easy. After you beat the game you can go back and play the missions you thought were hard and now find that with your increased skill the missions were in reality quite simple. This game is a bit of a challenge, so don't buy it unless you are prepared to spend some intimate time with it.
Replay value 10/10
This game has so much replay value its preposterous. You can replay each and every mission that you have defeated, and even some of the glitches can make for interesting stocking stuffers. There are secret cars and secret areas and even just things in the background that you won't see without looking really hard make this game VERY enjoyable. I still play it all the time, a couple years later.
Overall 10/10
This game is so great it deserves an 11/10, but we can't do that. Sure there are some annoying glitches, but that's all just part of the fun, right? A truly wonderful game.
Rent or Buy?
Buy. There are still copies at stores 3 years later, with the sequel due out this fall (no it didn't come out in 2002 like it says in the game). But if you are still unsure as to whether or not you should buy this game, rent it first. I guess this game isn't for everyone. |

| i wantThis is one of the hottest games I have played this whole year - superb graphics and a soundtrack by NIN make this a great action romp. Some other users have diss'd the game cuz they say it's too short, or it doesn't have enough weapons.... forget what they say, cuz the game is freaking HARD, and the weapons that you have access to require some serious skill to really master, so all in all the game is tuff to beat, and not at all suitable for pansies. THE GOOD: Well i have to say that how they made the game it was very good i like how they made the cars and missions and it reseembles Grand theft Auto a bit.THE BAD: The bad thing about this game that i really hate is how you walk it was really boring how you walk and i got really annoy by it. SUMMARY: Well this game was pretty good game i like how they put secret cars in each level and how hard they were to find. But my all time favorite car was either the police car or the little moon buggy those things were cool andi like how they drove.
I like how they told you on the map were the secret car was so it was so hard to actually find the car.
But anyways since this game was really good i will give it a 4.7 out of 5 for being good except on how you walk in the game. |

Good Mob Game | 4.0 0 comments |
by ballad__man from Mexico City, Mexico, Mexico | Dec 12, 2003 |
THE GOOD: Gettaway very realTHE BAD: Chases, not so real SUMMARY: I mean, tell me who of you passed "chase the gunman" in he first 10 trials?? NOBODY. This chase is unreal!!! who is going to try to run away by a cliff? Not me, for sure.
Nevermind, cool game in spite of it.
Very good game play, the cars and the cities give the game a mob environment (cool).
It would be very cool if there would be missions where you´d had to control Tanner, rescues, kidnappings, all that stuff. A good story and the music is very cool. Does anyone knows hat song is the one when you arrive to Las Vegas?
I like to kidnap a bus and mess around the city.
The best thing for this game are the jumps. Man! when you jump the bridges in Chicago is Awesome!!! i Love to get out of the car and watch it fly over the city!!
Love the chopper chasing and if you don´t kno what I´m talking about, go ahead, buy the game, don`t be deceived by its hardness, its a really cool game. |

THE GOOD: - Ability to lose the cops. - You can get out of you car and steal other cars. - Lots of cool secret areas. - Old looking cars to give the game a better look. - The levels are pretty big. - There are 37 cool missions.THE BAD: - You still can't run over pedestrians. - You have no guns. SUMMARY: This is one of the best games for playstation. This game has pretty good graphics and the levels are pretty detailed. Now you can get out of your car and explore the city on foot. Also you can steal other cars that you find on the streets. The car damage now is a lot more realistic. The driving is now more realistic and a lot more fun. There are 4 big cities that are very detailed and each city has its own secrets. Also each city has different cars. There are missions in every city so eventually you are going to get to know the city pretty well. The story line is very good and there are lots of missions so you will be playing this game for a long time. There arent that many cars to choose from but the ones that they have in the game are pretty nice. Another good feature is that now you can lose the cops. This game is great and its defenatly worth buying. |

THE GOOD: you can lose the cops easily and hi-jack cars. The graphics have definatly been improved and there are more secrets to find than driver 1 and the missions are alot more testing, and the overall gameplay has been improved.THE BAD: you still dont have the chance to run down pedestrians this is about the only negative point i found with this game.well if you like that sort of thing anyway. SUMMARY: This is definatly a major improvement on driver one, the cars are alot more rounded off and detailed. The damage done to the cars is alot more realistic when compared with driver 1. I do like the way in which all you need to do is get a certain distance from the cops when being chased, and steal another vechile to get rid of them. I found the missions much harder to complete than the first driver. The story lines not as good, but i still like the gameplay and missions. probably the best improvement is that you can steal other vechiles, and that there are many different sorts and even secret vechiles to be found. The one bad point is that you still cant run down pedestrians but i suppose doesn't really matter as the missions are alot more testing so you spend more time with those. so this game is really that good. |

THE GOOD: EverythingTHE BAD: A few glitches but some of the glitches were a bit funny. The glitches don't really affect the gameplay, its still the most fun game for the Playstation, and I can't wait for the sequel. SUMMARY: This is the best game you can buy for PS1, and when Driver 3 comes out on PS2 that'll be the best game you can buy for that console, and so on and so forth. So much better than the first one with the new ability to steal any car, secret areas like the construction site, are fun as hell, the cops actually chase you in this game unlike others (GTA3, VC, The Getaway), and there are realistic driving laws in Driver as well. The cities are realistic, the game is the most fun you'll have in a driving game, after you play it you'll be looking forward to Driver 3 more than ever. Simply put, this game is a must have for anyone who owns a PS1. |

Driver 2 is an exception sequel to Driver | 4.4 0 comments |

THE GOOD: -Ability to lose the cops -No unneccesary violence(running over peds.) -Old regular cars give the game a gritty lookTHE BAD: -The graphics were not improved upon at all
SUMMARY: Any parent of a kid who is like 8 and wants Vice City but you do not want them to have a game that violent should buy them this game instead. Driver 2 is a great undercover game that delivers with exception gameplay and variety of cities since Rio and Las Vegas are definetly very different cities. The only knock on this game is that the graphics were identical to Driver 1 and in some people's opinions, they were actually worse than they were in Driver 1. All in all this is a great game that has many creative missions and wasn't being pulled into using guns and kept it like the game's title says its Driver nothing more and that is how it should be. |
