PSX  Silent Hill 4.9

Gameplay: Silent Hill bases it's gameplay off of the standard set from Resident evil and Alone in the Dark. With weapons ranging from a lowly kitchen knife, to a powerful hunting rifle, there are many possible ways to do battle with the mad and macabre creatures that populate the seemingly deserted town. The only downside to fighting is the tedious control scheme. Silent Hill also presents tough puzzles that truly put your brain to work [like the infamous Zodiac puzzle], this game is sure to make your grind your teeth, and make you feel somewhat alone. The feeling of snowbound isolation as seen in The Shining, is re-created extremely well, with the snow falling out of season, thick fog that engulfs the town, and the exits being destroyed, or disappearing into thin air. Silent Hill is definitely not for the weak of heart, or those who don't like Hidden messages, and underlying meanings in the plot and surroundings.

Graphics: The visuals in Silent Hill were truly some of the Playstation's best, showing disturbing environments, and ghastly monstrosities for the player. One can truly appreciate the detail they used back then to tell this Obscene story of pagan religions, and horrors that seem unimaginable to the everyday person.

Sound: Akira Yamaoka lends his amazing composing abilities to create atmospheric music that fills each tension filled moment of exploring the towns dark corners. The only downside is horrible voice acting, but the Soundtrack, and background music [and sound effects] blow that out of the water as a factor.

If you're looking for a good scare, a surreal and deep story, look no farther than Silent Hill. But be careful when treading in this quaint little town, it may be too scary of a ride for some.

- graphics
- torch (need bigger WATT bulb)

THE GOOD:
Graphics (for a playstation game) , storyline , controls.

THE BAD:
graphics compared to a ps2 game , one ending was disappointing , a bit on the short side

SUMMARY:
1st things 1st , THIS IS NOT ANOTHER RESIDENT EVIL CLONE , i find silent hill alot more complex , for example , having a radio and flashlish add to the scariness some people say that having the radio makes it less scary , but when you walk into a dark room and the radio stars up , and you know there is a monster near you , but you can't see it is 9999x scarier than anything in any resident evil game i have played.also the good/evil silent hill worlds add alot of scariness to the game , especially when you come out from the clock tower in the school and go back in the school for the first time , with the bllod on the walls and grated floors ,unlike anything in any resident evil game.
as i mentioned earlier , the graphics are good for a playstation game (i was reluctent to get it at first because it was on playstation , but i was suprised by how good the grapics are), but nowhere near as good as silent hill 2 on ps2 (1 tip for silent hill 1 , playstaion 2 owners, did you know that on the ps2 menu , you can make playstaion games graphics smoother , some games (like ff9 almost look like n64 games this way , especially fights) , anyway....(oh and you can change the disk speed and their voices sound funny...) so... the storyline is much better then resident evil's umbrella co-operation bore-a-thon and much more complex , and you actually have feelings for the characters (a survival-horror game 1st) , so basically if you liked other survival horror games then this is a must , also if you are thinking of getting silent hill 3 , this is a must as well , as you will understand the story . if you are thinking of getting silent hill 2 though , you don't need to bother with this even though it is well worth a try , oh and the game has 5 different endings as well , lots of replay value , but like i said before , it look me 7 hours to complete 1st time , compared to 10 for silent hill 2 , compared to 50 hours for final fantasy 9 , so here are my scores........

graphics: 8/10 (for playstation)
sound: 8/10 (minimalist , but will creep you out)
gameplay: 7/10 (easy comtrols , but a bit clumsy)
replay value:9/10 (worth replaying to get all endings
storyline: 10/10(complicated at first)

THE GOOD:
Sound, Weapons, Location, Story.

THE BAD:
Graphics, Thats All!

SUMMARY:
Not Everyone Will Like The Story But Most Will. Harry Mason And His Daughter Go On Holiday To Silent Hill, A Quiet Resort Town In America. On The Way, Harry Crashes The Car And When He Wakes Up In Silent Hill, Cheryl Is Gone. You Mus Discover What Has Happened And I'll Tell You It's Not Pretty! This Game Is Terrifying, No One Can Say It's Not. It's The Oposite Of Resident Evil In That This Game Isolates You In An Abandoned Town Filled With Thick Fog. The Sounds Are What Make This Game Scary, You Will Run Down A Dark Corridor With Bloodstained Walls And Metal Grated Floors With A Thrashing, Pounding Noise Playing Which Will Really Scare Anyone. A Demonstration On What To Expect Is You'll Arrive At A Normal But Dark School At One Point Then You'll Go Through A Clock Tower And In The Distance Is A Siren Which Is The Scariest Thing You'll Ever Hear And When You Come Out The Other Side Of The Clock Tower The School Will Have Changed From Quiet To Noisy. The Corridors And Rooms Now Have Metal Grated Floorsd And Rusty/Bloody Walls And A Terrifying Noise To Add To The Atmosphere.

If You Like Being Scared Get This Game Which Is Scarier Than Any Film Or Game Except Silent Hill 2.
Silent Hill 2 Is On PS2 And Has Awesome Graphics Unlike SH1. SH2 Is Not A Sequel So Get It 1st If You Want. The Reaso SH1 Ha Bad Graphics Is Because It Was Fully 3D Unlike Resident Evil. However The FMV Cut Scenes In SH1 Will Blow You Away With The Awesome Graphics. At One Point In SH1 You Actually See An Eye Twitch On A Womans Face! Like I Said SH2 Is A Better Game Which Gets 5/5 While SH1 Gets 4.6/5. SH2 Is Fully 3D Also And Has Top Notch Graphics All The Way.

HOPE YOU GET BOTH GAMES!

THE GOOD:
Dynamic camera, great gameplay, definite replay value, excellent storyline, scare you crapless theme.

THE BAD:
so/so graphics

SUMMARY:
The so/so graphics aside, this game is AWESOME! The story is detailed, and you actually have to do some investigating to find out the full story (Which makes the game more realistic.).

Also, the monsters and the dark theme itself will keep you laying in bed with your eyes wide open. Just try turning the lights off, making sure other distractions are silenced, turn up the volume on the TV, and play this game alone for the first time. You will want to turn the game off to rid your self of the horror, yet you will be keenly attracted to play on. Konami is one of the best companies when it comes to Survival Horror.

There is definite replay value in this game. When you beat it, you can unlock a Next Fear mode. This will start you back in the Cafe. IT RETURNS!!! The infinite loop cycle of this game will keep you wanting to play again and again!

The keen attraction which Konami so gracefully embedded in this game keeps many people having fun and experiencing true horror, and absolutely SCARES them while doing so!

THE GOOD:
The amazingly smart puzzles, good graffics (atleast for psx) and the scare the crap out of you twisting story line. This game made me almost pee myself. I couldnt play it alone, and even when i did have my friends, i'd have nightmares afterwards. I consider that a good, i mean, if something scares you that bad, somebody put alot of time into it.

THE BAD:
Sometimes wandering around silent hill looking for clues or tools would get a bit frustrating. There would also be times that i didnt want to play and me and my friends would argue about who would play cuz we were so scared shitless. That didnt happen too much in this one as apposed to silent hill 3 which is by far the scariest of the bunch.

SUMMARY:
Dont play this game if you're a pansy. dont play it if you're afraid of the dark, unless you enjoy pissing yourself. I think its an awesome game... the story, the concept, the enemies are creative and hella sick lookin and altho it only took me 6 hours to complete the game the first time, there's five different endings to screw around with, and playing this one will help you to understand SH3 ALOT more.

THE GOOD:
Holy Crap it is freaky and still I like it as much as Silent Hill 2!

THE BAD:
Uh.... Lets see, oh uh not really anything wrong with it except for the scary music and noises!

SUMMARY:
I really hate when you hear a huge sound like banging or braking glass and then a nurse or doctor is outside the room now! Holy jeez those nurses and doctors are creepy but hey this game has a hold on ya! Now there is a firstperson view i found so it makes it so that you are Harry Mason and now you are scared more than before!

THE GOOD:
atmosphere, scaryish

THE BAD:
everything else

SUMMARY:
When Silent Hill was being developed everyone made out it would be really good and i was lukin forward to it being released. When it was released I rented it out and it seemed pretty crap. Compared to Resident Evil games it sucked! The graphics were worse and the whole game was weird and didn't seem to make sense. All you did was run around after a girl and there were these weird creature things everywhere! The game created a good atmosphere though even though the storyline was weird. I suppose this game is worth it if it's dead cheap otherwise I'd stick to Resi Evil.

THE GOOD:
Sound, length, and the references to all the scary movies i saw in the game, ex. carrie, pet sematary, look for some there really cool.

THE BAD:
I would've enjoyed a lil' more places to go and things to do.

SUMMARY:
IT TAKES ALOT TO SCARE ME AND THIS DID. ITS LIKE "BLAIR WITCH PROJECT", IT DIDN'T SCARE YOU IN THE THEATERS, IT SCARED YOU WHEN YOU GOT HOME, AND ITS 3:00AM AND YOU'RE STARRING AT YOUR CIELING, WONDERING, "DID THEY GET OUT??, DID THEY REALLY DIE??? WAS IT JUST A PRANK??" SILENT HILL WITH IT INTENSE PLOT AND DIFERENT WAYS OF MAKING SCARED IS REALLY LIIKE THAT. LIKE THE RADIO WHEN EVERYTHING IS OK, THEN YOU HEAR A LIL HUMMMM......YOUR PULSE WILL GO UP, I PROMISE. OVERALL, BUY IT. ONE OF THE NEST GAMES I HAVE PLAYED.

THE GOOD:
Scarier than Resident evil, better weapons.

THE BAD:
Too gloomy, can get lost easily, to many blocked off roads, making it feel restricted.

SUMMARY:
Any fan of resident evil should like this, imagine this, a game like resident evil, throw it in a dark twisted town with headless hairy things trying to tear you head off, and the only way to protect youself is with a lead pipe! It is a great game, and may I say, it is one not for the faint hearted. I don't get scared and this scared me! One point you are fine and suddenly, the whole place changes, where blood is every where and it gets alot more scarier. A definate must for Survival horror fans, and with 5 endings to get and many secrets weapons to find, it will keep you going!
