THE GOOD: Has nice graphics (cel-shaded) Will hold your interest for a while Great for ad-hoc(?)and playing with your friends Make your own 3 member teamTHE BAD: Very short Very repititive Only 20 characters What happened to pressing the buttons(during specials) we all came to enjoy in Ultimate Ninja? SUMMARY: As a Naruto fan, I thought, "What the heck, why not", it really captured my interest when you could make a 3 cell team with all those special skills you get, these skills were very benefical, ranging from lowering your oppenent's stats/health/chakra, you could heal/buff your own characters. I found this very helpful when your in a position where you can't really win.
The gameplay was pretty much set for button-smashers. The only attack button was O, and just linking your attacks into other combos was rewarding, until the oppenent got you... Which would then result in you furiously pressing R, or taking out at least 10-15% of your health. There really isn't any skill involved in this game. Sure skill may help when battling your friends, but the game is also beatable by spamming your way through the levels. Sure destroying things in the background is fun, and so is using your awesome special to deliver huge damage, but think about it: hasn't a spammer been able to beat EVERY fighting game there is, just by do a certain attack over and over again?
The graphics were what you would expect an anime based game to have: cel-shading. The specials were nice, with that flying background and you and your oppenents the center of attention. One thing I disliked about the graphics were that if you or your oppenent switched planes, then the camera zoomed out so much, it was kinda hard to see where you were. Another thing was, you can't really see the character's faces (during actual combat).
This paragraph is directed only to Naruto fans. So skip over this if your not a Naruto fan. Wheter you're watchin the dub on Cartoon Network, watching the subs or reading the manga (either one) you will be far past this storyline. The game only takes you to meeting Itachi. I mean c'mon, Naruto Clash of Ninja 1 was only like 13 eps long. This shortens the game a lot. I was very diappointed when i figured this out.
There aren't very many specials each character is given. They only get like 3. In Ultimate Ninja they had like 3+. They are all very damaging and leave either you or your oppenent with a status effect.
After you beat the first part you may be like: "WTF are these scrolls for?" The answer is to achieve higher ranks. Ranking is from Academy Student - Hokage. This is very easy to do. You obtain scrolls from completing Heroes mode (colorful scroll) and Vs. CPU mode (Gold scrolls). Once you have enough, you can take on the next mission. These missions all consist of 1 thing: Win the fight. Then they usually say something else saying your oppenent has a handicap or you need to win a specific way. Other than that, getting to Hokage is very easy.
After you complete a mission it says something like: 100 points received. These points are used to strenthen your character in Vs. CPU or in Missions. You go the Power-UP Paramaters and assign points to a certain attribute; attack, speed, defense, etc. This gives you like a handicap and makes it a lot easier to kill your oppenent.
Overall, I enjoyed this game, but wished it was longer and with more content. It gets challenging after a while so don't get this if your not really commited to beating it. Although it is easy if your good at fighting games (or love to spam). Either way you will enjoy annhilating your friends, playing wirelessly. |

THE GOOD: -good graphics(cell shaded i think thats what it called lyk the dbz games on ps2) -good 20 characters all woth different fighting styles to an extent -character customistaton(sorta) -can get difficult(who doesnt like a challenge)THE BAD: -to short -bit repettitive(sorry bout the spelling) -bit simplistic -not enough stuff to do/unlock SUMMARY: The games is fairly simple its your basic fighting(mortal kombat) game. There are a few different modes which are slightly different. The actualy gameplay is also very simplistic with the circle button attacking, square to throw shuriken, triangle to use their special technique and x to jump. The different modes are as follows, heroes mode, vs cpu, mission mode(its called something different just cant remember it now), parameter power up, wireless mode and finally options. also the music in game is very good.
ok now to wach mode starting with heroes mode - heroesmode is where u make a party of 2 or 3 characters, then you must deafeat a series of stages each containing 2 or 3 characters, once each stage is complete points are awarded to the characters used, extra points can be acquired by completing the achievements given before each stage. More on points later. Once you are at the last stage you will then come to the final stage where depending which difficulty you are currently in(this will also determine how many stages there are easy = 5 stages, normal = 6, hard = 7, and insane = 8 stages) you will fight one or more of the unlockable characters(not telling whothey are cause whats the fun in that). Once completed you unlock the character(s) and the next difficulty, plus depending again which diffuculty you will accquire a number of different scrolls.
Vs cpu mode is just battling the computr on a head to head battle. You can also use your customised characters in it more on them later. Also if you defeat your opponent you get some points as well(not much though). Also you get 4 gold scrolls.
Now to Mission mode this onvoles goin up in ranks from genin all the way to Hokage, it involves colllecting scrolls from Heroes mode and vs cpu(you need so many to start one of the missions). ok once you have enough scrolls you select one of the rankings (RANK D,C,B etc) then i each rank there are so many missions. Each mission involves sparring with one of the characters(you can use one of ur custom characters) and defeat your opponent. But theres a twist you must do it while obliging to the rules. There are certain requirement for each mission and they get harder all the way up to Hokage. You also get points for the character you use.
Parameter power up is where you utilise all those points you acquired through the previous modes. in this mode you upgrade your attack, deffense, speed, charkra, stamina and ninjutsu(kinda sucks there arent any kool moves to unlock ike in dbz). ok so each one does a different thing and most are self explanitory like attack, defense, speed and chakra. Stamina is how long an effect from an item last(forgot abou that there are different shuriken etc you can pick up and through some so status alignments, poison, chakra seal, att down etc.) ok so each u ca upgrade 5 times and each time you upgrade it costs more points(there is a limit as well its like 12000 and it doesnt allow you to completly upgrade everything, im not completly sure but quite certain thats the case). These custom characters, and i use that term loosley can be used i vs cpu andmission mode, and i think wirelessly as well.
ok in wireless mode i hav only played with game sharing which u can use whatever characters you have unlocked but can only fight in the ichu ramen shop(cant spell) but no custom characters, havnt tried any of the other things in it, sorry.
ok now to options, pretty standard. pick diffuculty and how loud everything is thats bout it.
So overall a pretty good game...more fun with other ppl...repettitive, butwhat games isnt, basic but you can just pick it up and go lol. so worth a look if you like naruto or just wana good button masher. but still worth a look.
hope that helps, my first review lemme know what you think. |
