Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus

"Given the game's low price and close temporal proximity to its forerunner, it's unsurprising that the visuals, sounds, and gameplay haven't changed at all since Portable Ops. But this still feels like a missed opportunity -- implementing some of the pivotal control tweaks seen in the upcoming MGS4 would have greatly improved this game's somewhat cumbersome interface."

"Because of its multiplayer nature, Portable Ops Plus is bound to turn off those who come to the series for the over-the-top plot, the amazing cut scenes and the slow-paced and methodical action. However, for those who are open to expanding the MGS universe and/or love the original, there is plenty in the game to warrant the paltry $20 entry fee."

Sure, it may be twenty dollars, but unless you're a hardcore Metal Gear Solid fan, you're not really gaining much with this lackluster expansion pack, which loses more than it gains. In fact, the title could've been handled better as a downloadable patch or update to the game file instead of a standalone that doesn't really improve on the formula. No story, unbalanced multiplayer and hampered recruiting mechanics all combine to make this a disappointing addition to one of the best games from last year.
