Seems abit harsh for that type of score. The story is its selling point and u pretty much dismissed it by saying it's confusing and hard to understand. Personally I understood everything this game had to offer and the story is far superior to any game that is currently released at the moment. When u give a review u can't say it's aged badly when obviously u keep in mind it was made about 15 years ago when technology was not as advance. You pretty much gave it a low score because of that.

Pretty poor review if u think that way.

Thanks for reading, Angelus. You're welcome to disagree but I don't have much to respond with that I didn't say already in the review. If it's any consolation, I would have given the PSX version a higher score, but that isn't what I was reviewing. The PSP version was released in 2009 and judging it by the standards of 1998 is pretty useless for anyone looking to buy it today.

That's the thing it was released on psn and a lot of people had purchased it , young and old and it was still given 8/10 or more. Now in this day and age graphics are everything and a lot of current gen games get a score below and 8. Just comes down to personal opinion I guess.

Your points are all very valid, no doubt. If I played it now, nostalgia would play a huge part in why I'd still enjoy it. You must admit though (and you didn't mention it in your review besides talking about one particular nameless battle), that the boss fights are so memorable. I remember every one of them so vividly and it's been at least 10 years since I've played this game.

Very good review as a whole; nothing new there.

There were many other things I could've talked about, but I thought it was already dragging on a bit. I thought the boss battles were hit-and-miss, the one I mentioned was absolute genius while I thought a few others were underwhelming. They were a nice change of pace but I'm not sure whether that's because I found the usual gameplay a bit tedious. I was also terribly frustrated when I still didn't know what I was supposed to do the fourth or fifth time I died. Mind, that probably says more about how much I sucked than the game itself.

Cheers for the read and the comments!

Oh, I forgot to mention. The end of your review just has a little error, similar to the one you pointed out on mine:

"...it’s a game I’d suggest every gaming enthusiast should play at least once, if only to understand what caused all the fuss way back when."

Which boss fights did you enjoy? Just out of interest. I absolutely loved Psycho Mantis, Gray Fox, Liquid (obviously!) and the second Sniper Wolf battle.

I must be hungover, because I still can't spot the mistake there.

Psycho Mantis (!!), Gray Fox and the first Liquid battles were my favourites. Final boss really ground my gears (chortle).

There's a mistake? I don't see it either lol
